Curtis Hugh Gibbons, 56, beloved son, loving brother, faithful friend, died January 31, 2011, at his home in Idaho Falls.
Curtis was born April 7, 1954, in Upland, California, to Charles Lynn “Chuck” Gibbons and Gertrude Francis “Trudy” Bores Gibbons. Although the family had many homes in many cities, in 1960 they moved to Idaho Falls, and that is where Curt remained until his death. He is a proud graduate of Skyline High School, where he and his amazing musical talents entertained many crowded dance floors.
Curt was a gifted musician whose music touched anyone who heard him sing or play his prized 12-string. Songs that he wrote moved any listening ear as they were inspired from his huge heart and unrelenting spirit of giving. Even in his last years when he was in great pain and failing health, the perpetual entertainer would never miss an opportunity to sing and bring hope and smiles to his audiences. No doubt he is entertaining and bringing hope eternally. His passion for music was inspired by his loving mother Trudy.
Curt was a spiritual man who took great inspiration from the bible and the teachings of Jesus Christ. His faith, in spite of his ailments was an incredible light for those who crossed his path.
A gentle, sweet and kind soul, Curt is survived by his parents, Chuck and Trudy Gibbons, a brother, Steve Gibbons, four sisters, Julie Headrick, Sherry DeCorte, Cindy Gibbons and Kelly Gibbons, and many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly and will miss his loving words of wisdom. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Arthur Bores and Loretta Daugherty, his paternal grandparents, Orville and Pearl Gibbons, his aunts, Mary Ann Gerhardstein and Janet Gallagher, his namesake uncle, Hugh Gallagher, two brothers-in-law, John Diaz and Doug Headrick. and his niece, Sharayah Osburn.
My soul is full of whispered song;
My blindness is my sight;
The shadows that I feared so long
Are all alive with light. ~Alice Cary, Dying Hymn
Now cracks a noble heart. Good-night, sweet prince:
And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest. ~Shakespeare 's Hamlet
Curt's singing was his light, his refuge. He would want us all to continue to sing, pray and enjoy living.
"You can't let life give you that knock out punch.
You have to bob and weave and never let it knock you down." ~Curtis Gibbons
"You'll be here, and I'll be walkin' on"
~Curtis Gibbons from his original song "Walkin' On"
