Craig Ellis Peterson, 64, passed away November 14, 2014, at his home in Firth, Idaho, surrounded by family. His battle with pancreatic cancer was courageous.
He was born April 27, 1950, in Blackfoot, Idaho, to Ellis Peterson and Dorothy Tressl Peterson. He was raised in Kimball, attended Firth High School, and graduated from Idaho State University with a Masters degree in Nuclear Engineering.
Craig loved his family and enjoyed making many memories with them. He married his high school sweetheart, Janice Ockerman, June 18, 1971. They began their married life in Blackfoot, Idaho, while he continued his education at ISU. While in his early twenties, Craig and his father built a cabin in Island Park. During this time his father passed away. This loss heightened his sense of responsibility, helped define him as a caretaker for his mother, and made him a role model for his niece and nephews. After college, he and Janice moved to Idaho Falls. There he started a career in engineering with Energy Incorporated. In 1976, Craig and Janice welcomed their son, Drew. Soon after, Craig's love of building brought him to complete his first of many homes in Idaho Falls. In 1979, they welcomed their daughter, Brooke. Many family weekends were spent at the cabin, fishing, boating, riding motorcycles, catching toads and playing in the Buffalo River. Some of Craig and Janice's greatest joys were vacationing with their family in numerous locations and seeing their children grow and have families of their own. He had a special relationship with his grandkids. He loved taking them on tractor rides, boating, four wheeling, and spending time in the woodshop. Even during chemotherapy, he traveled to California to witness the birth of his grandson, Asher.
Craig loved the work he did and valued his partners and associates. In 1988, Craig co-founded Computer Simulation & Analysis, a nuclear engineering firm. He traveled the world working with the commercial nuclear power companies. Today, CSA has celebrated over 26 years of business.
Craig lived every moment to the fullest, filling his time with family, fun, hard work, and purpose. He had a love for restoring old barns and antiques, especially clocks. A self taught wood worker with his own shop, he restored antique furniture and created beautifully hand-crafted, original pieces of furniture for his family. He enjoyed spending countless hours on his tractor and tinkering around his acreage. He touched and influenced the lives of so many. He left incredible memories and refined other people's characters to reflect his example. This will be the legacy he is remembered for.
Craig is survived by his wife, Janice, son, Drew (Kari) Peterson of Redding CA, and daughter, Brooke (Jory) Russell of Melbourne, Australia; grandchildren, Brynley, Grayden and Crew Russell and Asher Peterson; sister, Judy (Mike) Kirkham of Blackfoot, Idaho. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy and Ellis.
