COLLINS BURTON CANNON IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Collins Burton Cannon, 85, of Idaho Falls, died August 16, 2003, at the Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, February 19, 1918, to Collins Telle and Ida May Burton Cannon. He was educated in Utah, graduating from the University of Utah with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering, and Post-graduate studies at the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, California. He was granted Registration as a Professional Engineer by the State of Utah in 1947. He served on active duty with the United States Navy from June, 1941, to November, 1945. He maintained his service in the Active Reserve and was retired as a Captain in the Navy in 1978. He married Beth Innes July 3, 1940 and they were blessed with five children. Beth preceded him in death September 26, 1983. He later married Dorothy Joan Anderson Collins April 20, 1984. Dorothy passed away June 26, 1994. His civilian employment included engineering assignments with the Utah-Idaho Sugar Company, the Mountain States Steel Company, General Electric Company, and the American Potato Company. He served on the Board of Trustees for the Blackfoot City Library, numerous civic committees, and the Employers Support Committee for the Guard and Reserve. He was a Trustee Emeritus of Ducks Unlimited, and an ardent sportsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and international traveling. Surviving are: Daughter: Susan Forsberg, Centerville, UT Son: Collins Philip (Kay) Cannon, Kearney, MO Son: Thomas Michael (Joani) Cannon, Los Alamos, NM Daughter: Julie (Ben) Markham, Vienna, VA Daughter: Mary (Hal) Owen, Surfside Beach, TX Step-Daughter: Cynthia Joan Hernandez Step-Daughter: Deanna (Todd) Mickelsen Step-Son: Michael Dan (Georgia) Collins 22 Grandchildren, 12 Great Grandchildren He was preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth, a grandson, David, and a great granddaughter, Katheryn. Funeral Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 27, 2003, at Fairwinds-Sandcreek, 3310 Valencia Drive. Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 30, 2003, at the Federal Heights LDS Ward, 1300 Fairfax Road, Salt Lake City. Burial will be in Salt Lake City Cemetery under the direction of Wood Funeral Home.
