She was born October 21, 1959, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Ralph and Joy (Hiskey) Johnston. She grew up in the area and attended Dora Erickson Elementary, Clair E. Gail Junior High, Central Junior High, and graduated from Skyline High School. She also attended Eastern Idaho Technical College.
On May 26, 1978, she married Terry Howard in Idaho Falls, Idaho. To this union were born five children: Christina, Celeste, Andrea, Benjamin, and Matthew. Colleen and Terry made their home in Idaho Falls, where Colleen was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. She also worked as a dental and orthodontic assistant, florist, and Mary Kay consultant.
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She enjoyed doing arts and crafts, stamping, painting, decorating, and creating beautiful floral arrangements. Her main hobby was helping and giving to others, which she gave freely in spite of her physical limitations and pain.
Colleen is survived by her loving husband of nearly 39 years, Terry Howard of Idaho Falls, ID; daughter, Christina (John) Giannini of Idaho Falls, ID; daughter, Celeste (Jon) Weber of Lyndon, KS; daughter, Andrea (Adam) Grigsby of Meridian, ID; son, Benjamin Howard of Crosby, ND; son, Matthew Howard of Idaho Falls, ID; parents, Ralph and Joy Johnston of Idaho Falls, ID; sister, Brenda (Todd) Archibald of St. Anthony, ID; brother, Brad (Lana) Johnston of Rigby, ID; father-in-law, Allen (Evelyn) Howard of Hyrum, UT; and 7 grandchildren: Kaden, Makaya, Alana, Tristin, Catrina, John, and Rowyn.
She was preceded in death by her mother-in-law, Helen Howard.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Friday, May 12, 2017, at the Idaho Falls LDS Pioneer Ward, 2020 S. Charlotte Drive, with Bishop Fred Cooper officiating. The family will visit with friends on Thursday from 6:30-8 pm at Wood Funeral Home, 273 North Ridge Avenue, and Friday from 10-10:45 am prior to services at the church. Burial will be in the New Sweden Cemetery following the services.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Idaho Falls Humaritarian Center, 1415 Northgate Mile, Idaho Falls, ID 83401.
