Colleen Scott Call

Colleen Scott Call, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away at her home in Idaho Falls, Idaho, on October 17, 2026, at the age of 77. She was born January 28, 1949, in Blackfoot, Idaho, to Eldon Earl Scott and Clara Harman Scott.

Growing up on a dairy farm in Wapello, Idaho, Colleen quickly learned the value of hard work from her parents and siblings, waking early every day to help her dad milk the cows. She also worked hard in school, graduating in 1967 from Blackfoot High School and then attending Ricks College before graduating from Brigham Young University with a degree in education. While teaching school in Pocatello, Idaho, she met Charles Frank Call, III, and they were married in the Logan, Utah Temple on May 2, 1973. After a few years, they moved to San Francisco, California, where Colleen taught at a Catholic school while Charlie completed his degree in podiatric medicine. They treasured the memories and friendships from those years.

Colleen and Charlie eventually moved to Idaho Falls, Idaho, where they worked hard to build Charlie’s podiatry practice and grow their family. They were blessed with three devoted children: Brian Call and his wife, Natalie, Julie Arfmann and her husband, Ryan, and Shanna Roper and her husband, Brad, along with 12 adoring grandchildren. Her children and grandchildren meant the world to her, and she prayed for each of them by name every day. She taught them the gospel of Jesus Christ through her love and actions. Colleen served faithfully in many callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, especially caring for and mentoring the young women in her ward and stake. For many, her house became a second home, a place where evening family prayer could easily include a crowd of kids from the high school.

Music was a constant presence in Colleen's life. Blessed with a beautiful soprano voice, she filled her home with singing. She performed with the Choralaires for many years, supported Charlie's love of the bassoon and his participation in the Idaho Falls Symphony, and taught countless friends and neighbors to sing and play the ukulele. Charlie and Colleen loved to sing together for weddings, funerals, ward choirs, and just for fun.

Passionate about many things, including lady bugs, fairy gardens, nativities, and traveling the world, she also taught her children to love baseball, basketball, and dance, but she was especially zealous about tennis. She played competitive USTA tennis for many years, and even after a serious automobile accident ended her competitive playing days, her love for the game never diminished. Throughout the years, she loved to watch her children and grandchildren compete on the tennis court, serving as an assistant coach for Hillcrest High School, and felt proud that so many neighbor kids gained a love for the sport on her backyard tennis court.

Colleen was preceded in death by her parents, Eldon and Clara Scott, and Charles Frank Call, III.

She is survived by her children, Brian (Natalie) Call, Julie (Ryan) Arfmann, Shanna (Brad) Roper; 12 loving grandchildren; brother, Carl (Carol) Scott; and sisters, Karen Lloyd, Brenda (Bob) Cornelison, Janice (Bruce) Anthony, and Donna (Tom) Bevan.

In her later years, Colleen found a dear friend and adventure companion in Jim Craig, who lovingly supported and cared for her through life's joys and challenges. Her family is deeply grateful for the love and kindness he showed their mother.

Colleen loved her brother and sisters more than words can express. She found enormous strength and comfort in knowing that her family and many generations of ancestors tried their hardest to live the gospel of Jesus Christ. Her years of temple service strengthened her deep conviction that she was a beloved daughter of Heavenly Parents, with a divine nature and eternal destiny. We can only imagine that she's in heaven right now, telling anyone who will listen just how much she loves her family.
