Cody William Hawley, 21, of Idaho Falls, passed away unexpectedly on June 7, 2026, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center from complications of pneumonia that were worsened by his pre-existing asthma condition.
Cody entered this world six weeks earlier than expected on November 3, 2004, to David James "Jamie" Hawley and Shalisa Peterson Hawley in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Cody was an energetic, smart, and driven child, always looking for ways to start his own business, and he just knew he was going to make it big in life. Cody's charismatic and welcoming personality made it easy for him to make friends, and he loved his friends dearly. Cody was always ready to go camping, 4-wheeling, golfing, bowling, play a game of poker, or any activity to be around friends or family.
Cody graduated from Idaho Virtual Academy in 2022 and remained in Idaho Falls after finishing school. In 2023, Cody met the love of his life, Kaitlynn, and became engaged to be married a year later. Cody had ambitious plans for their future together and loved his fiancé and pets with all of his heart. At the time of his passing, Cody worked at Synergy Home Care providing needed support for others. He would take every available shift to bring his dreams one step closer.
Family meant everything to Cody. Simply being around his family made him happy. He enjoyed the love, laughter, and cherished memories made with family. Cody regularly told family and friends how much he loved and appreciated them, making sure they knew how deeply he cared for each of them.
Cody was an organ donor and in a final act of generosity was able to help save the lives of several other people. There are no words to describe how much we will miss Cody. His laughter, his daily calls, his spontaneous visits, and even his excuses to get out of cleaning are already missed. We are so proud of the young man you became and will hold you in our hearts forever. We love you, Cody.
Cody is survived by his father and step-mother, Jamie and Shonna Hawley of Idaho Falls, ID; mother, Shalisa Peterson Hawley of Idaho Falls, ID; fiancé, Kaitlynn Bandy of Idaho Falls, ID; brother, Coltin Hawley of Idaho Falls, ID; bonus parents, Jon and Kristi Nelson; bonus siblings, Traven, Zerik, and Skylee Nelson of Idaho Falls, ID; grandparents, Dave and Connie Hawley of Howe, ID; grandfather, Brent Peterson of Idaho Falls, ID; and grandmother, Susan Browning of Sweet, ID.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Shayla Peterson; great-grandparents, Bill and Vada Frew; and great-grandmother, Donna Kirby.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, June 18, 2026, from 6-8 p.m. at The Brickyard Event Center, 1025 S. Ammon Road. We encourage those attending to share their favorite memories and stories of Cody to help celebrate his remarkable life.
