Kenneth Clyde Stewart, 89, passed away January 10, 2014, at Chancellor Gardens Care Center in Clearfield, Utah.
He was born January 6, 1925, in Declo, Idaho, to James Lawrence and Ursula Gillett Stewart. He was the youngest child of nine children. He learned at a young age to work hard and do his share on the family farm.
After graduating from Burley High School, he served for three years in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He saw many fascinating places as he sailed the Pacific Ocean on an aircraft carrier as a gunner's mate and a barber.
When home on leave he met his sweetheart and eternal companion, Doris Woodbury, at a regional dance in Burley. They were married November 13, 1946, in the Idaho Falls Temple. Clyde was a skilled carpenter; he was the building supervisor for several church houses in the Utah and Idaho Falls areas. He was the job supervisor for the construction of the Zipper Test Nuclear Reactor at the INL. He was the manager of Madison Millwork in Rexburg before opening his own cabinet shop, "Stewart Cabinets." He was a perfectionist at his trade, his honesty and skilled work has provided beautiful cabinets for homes and businesses in the Rexburg region.
Clyde enjoyed dancing, gardening, boating, water skiing, 4-wheeling, camping, fishing and serving others.
He was always on the run with several projects going at once. He could fix about anything he set his mind to.
He was an active and dedicated member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in many leadership capacities. He and Doris served two missions together, the first to the New York, New York mission, and the second as temple construction supervisor for the Columbus, Ohio, Temple. They served in the Idaho Falls and Rexburg Temples for many years together. They enjoyed ballroom dancing for most of their 65 years together, and were ward and stake dance directors overseeing many regional MIA dance festivals.
