CLYDE A. BURTENSHAW
SHELTON, ID -- Clyde Alan Burtenshaw, 78, of Shelton, a
loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on August 16, 2003,
from complications due to bone cancer.
He was born July 3, 1925, at Perry, Idaho, to John Robert
Burtenshaw and Lilly Dale Humphrey Burtenshaw. He grew up in Shelton and
graduated from Ucon High School. He served in the U. S. Army during World
War II. Clyde married Velma Rosella Ferguson April 30, 1947, in the Idaho
Falls LDS Temple.
An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day
Saints, he served as Elders Quorum President, Ward and Stake Sunday School
President, Sunday School teacher, High Priest Group Leader, Stake Young
Men President, Bishop, Stake Dance Director, and Ward Employment director.
He served on the Board of Directors for Challenge Dairy, the FHA Board,
the Grain & Feed Board for 20 years, and the Western General Dairy Board
for 30 years. In 1977 he became a County Commissioner for Bonneville County
and served for 16 years. In 1991 he was inducted to the Eastern Idaho Agricultural
Hall of Fame.
Clyde loved being a farmer and watching things grow. He
also said it was a good place to raise a family and teach responsibility.
He worked very hard on his farm and took great pride in it. Clyde loved
his home and yard and after retiring spent many hours improving and making
it more beautiful. He was always finding a way to make things easier and
more convenient for Velma.
Dad was a very compassionate and loving father, he loved
associating with and being around people. We grew up watching him give countless
hours in serving others. He loved to use his big yellow front end loader
and his tractor helping his neighbors and other people, some he didn't even
know, to plow out driveways and do many other projects, such as rototilling
gardens.
Keeping the family close was very important to Dad. He
enjoyed spending time with us. Dad loved having the family over for dinner,
he especially looked forward to the annual trips to Red Fish Lake for the
past 25 years.
