Clifford V. Long - 01/05/2002 Clifford V. Long - 01/05/2002 CLIFFORD VIRGIN LONG IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Clifford V. Long, 77, of Iona, Idaho, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, friend, businessman, and civic leader passed away on January 4, 2002. He was born on June 18, 1924 to John William and Eugenie Virgin Long. He was their fifth child , having an older sister and three older brothers. He attended school in Rexburg, Boise and Bancroft. He served as senior class president at Madison High School and participated in football, basketball, and track. At the age of 17, he entered the U. S. Navy and Marine Corps and served three years as a medic corpsman. This service gave him the opportunity to see most of the islands in the Western Pacific, from Australia to Japan. After completing his military duty, he returned to Rexburg where he married Evadean Forsgren on June 4, 1947 in the Idaho Falls Temple. They became the parents of five children. He ran a service station in Ashton for four years. He later worked as an independent distributor for Continental Baking Company and Frito Lay. He also owned a craft, floral and ceramic business, and served as Bonneville County Commissioner for 14 years. He had a great love of country and was described as being “The Gentleman of the Century.” He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in various teaching positions, as a counselor in the bishopric, as bishop, as a high counselor, as a counselor in the stake presidency, and as Cub Master. He was a man of faith who tried to follow the Savior's example in all aspects of his life. After retiring, Cliff served on the Iona City Council, as Republican Party Chairman, and was the driving force in the creation of the Idaho Innovation Center. He loved to work in the yard, watch BYU football games, relish the Utah Jazz victories, and go camping. Mostly, he wanted to be a world-class grandpa for his 23 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. He set a lasting example by working hard, persevering, serving others, and honoring all of his obligations. Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m., January 8, 2002, at the Iona LDS 2nd Ward, on the corner of the Ririe Highway and Iona Road, with Bishop Ken Wrightson officiating. The family will visit with friends on Monday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home and for one hour prior to services on Tuesday at the church. Military Rites will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Team. Burial will be in Iona Cemetery under the direction of Wood Funeral Home, 273 North Ridge Avenue, Idaho Falls, Idaho 83402-4092.
