Cleveland "Mat" Mathew Metcalf

Fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church, Cleveland Mathew Metcalf, 52, of Idaho Falls, passed away May 21, 2024, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center surrounded by his Family.

Mat was born July 24, 1971, in Missoula, Montana, to Cleveland Bruce Metcalf and Ginger Holland Metcalf. He grew up and attended schools in Utah, and Montana, and Washington. Mat graduated from Logan High School and went on to attend Utah State University where he received his meat cutting certificate. Mat moved to Butte, Montana, to manage Bruce's Quick Lube for 10 years.

On May 24, 1997, he married Amy Childs in Butte, Montana. They were blessed with twin sons, Cleveland Michael and Andrew Kay. Mat and Amy made their home in Idaho Falls, Idaho, where Mat worked at the Adventure Center and Jiffy Lube; he went to Sage Truck driving school earning his CDL and worked as a truck driver. Mat had to retire due to health issues, but kept himself busy with woodworking, frame making, photography and many other interests.

He was a member of the Catholic Church, joining in 2017. Mat was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus and was named Knight of the Year for the State of ID in 2018. He served as Grand Knight of Council 1663 and was Faithful Navigator. Mat loved to bowl and participated in various bowling leagues. Mat loved to be in nature and enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, bow hunting, riding his motorcycle and snowmobiling. He was a bow hunting instructor.  He loved to woodwork, make barn wood frames, mechanic, cut meat, do crafts, and do models. He used to say he was a Jack of all trades and master of none. His favorite saying was "Fine as Frog's fur." Mat loved the MT Grizzlies Football team and was an avid Chicago Bears fan. He loved AC/DC music and loved spending time with his family and friends.

Mat is survived by his wife, Amy Metcalf of Idaho Falls, ID; two sons, Mike Metcalf of Butte, MT, and Andy Metcalf of Idaho Falls, ID; father, Bruce (Lavonne) Metcalf of ,Butte, MT; mother, Ginger Briggs of Logan, UT; siblings, Jenifer (Matt) Picard of Morrison , CO, Milo Bauer of Logan, UT, Roy (Nancy) Bauer of Logan, UT, Lorn Bauer of Logan, UT, JoDee (Justin) Henderson of Logan, UT, and Darin Bauer of Astoria, OR.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Roy and Peggie Holland and Cleve and Mona Metcalf; and his mother-in-law, Mary Childs.

A Rosary and visitation are planned for Thursday, June 13, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 South Ammon Road. Funeral Mass will be held Friday, June 14, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church, 1690 East 17th Street with a luncheon to follow. Inurnment to be held June 22, 2024, in the Metcalf family plot in Philipsburg, Montana, at 1:00 p.m.
