Cleve Benjamin Delaney, our loving father, husband, grandfather, and great grandfather, was peacefully called home of natural causes on December 5, 2010, surrounded by his loved ones. He was 83. The passing of this sweet, kind, and generous man brought tears of sorrow and joy to his family who will remember him always.
Dad was born August 12, 1927, in Sawtelle, California, to Joseph Daniel Delaney and Ilda Marie Jensen Delaney. He was the oldest of six children. He attended schools in Driggs, Fairview, and Grant, and graduated from Ucon High School. After high school Dad served a hitch in the U.S. Navy from 1945-1946. After being discharged from the Navy he met the love of his life, Dixie Lee Christensen, and was married for 56 wonderful years. They had four children.
Dad worked on the first Nuclear ship, the Savannah, in Galveston, Texas. He always felt that Idaho was God’s country and moved back to Idaho in 1976, where he retired from E G & G Idaho. Dad was a gifted woodworker and made many special gifts. And, instead of just making one, he always made three or four for his wife, daughters and grandkids. Each item was lovingly handcrafted just for them.
Dad loved traveling and always talked about being able to visit seven of the National Parks. He adored his grandkids and great grandkids. He had a true passion for making them happy. He always had toys, gas powered cars, mini bikes, and tractors ready for them to ride. Whenever he would see the grandchildren coming, his eyes would sparkle.
