IDAHO FALLS, ID --
Cleo Maurine Olsen Homer, 84, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, died September 27, 2009 at Life Care Center of Idaho Falls, of causes incident to age. Her loving husband, Gareth, was at her side at the time of her death, as he had been every day since she moved to Life Care Center over three years ago.
Maurine was born November 12, 1924, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Sylvan Olson and Mary Hannah (Mae) Green Olson. She grew up and attended schools in Idaho Falls, and graduated from Idaho Falls High School in 1942.
Maurine was married to her high-school sweetheart and eternal companion, Gareth B. Homer, on October 4, 1945, in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple.
She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in the Relief Society, the Young Women, and the Primary. She was an ordinance worker in the Idaho Falls Temple, and served for three years at her husband’s side when they presided over the Michigan Dearborn Mission of the LDS Church from 1986 to 1989.
She was a famed and excellent cook and seamstress. She enjoyed all aspects of homemaking. She particularly loved gardening, and dedicated hundreds of hours to preparing large scrapbooks of family activities and photographs. She was known, above all, for her compassion and empathy, particularly for those from humble economic circumstances—a reflection of her own humble upbringing.

Dear Gareth and family: I was saddened to read of the passing of Maurine. My fondest memories of working in the Stake Relief Society include Maurine. I think of her happy, positive influence on me and those involved. She improved our attitudes and dispositions. She was truly a "giver" of time, talent and possessions. I take comfort in knowing that the best part is yet to come.
Love and Sympathy, Dallas
