IDAHO FALLS, ID - Claude L. Smith, 91, of Idaho Falls, passed away on July 6, 2010, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. He was born September 26, 1918, in Clearfield, Iowa, to Leroy D. and Josie Ellen Wood Smith. He grew up rural Iowa and attended a one room school until eighth grade in Taylor County, Iowa. He attended high school and graduated from Lenox High School in Lenox, Iowa. Claude moved to Idaho Falls in the early 1940s and began a long and successful career with Roger Brothers Foods as a maintenance manager. During his time with Roger Brothers he was involved in the installation, operations and maintenance of the various pieces of potato processing equipment both in the Idaho Falls area and in Washington. On April 30, 1953, he married Thora Mercy Bailey in Idaho Falls, Idaho. They we sealed at the Idaho Falls Temple on February 4, 1960. They were married for 34 years before Thora died on June 29, 1987. Claude married Jean Randall on May 23, 1989, in Elko, Nevada. Claude and Jean enjoyed dancing and spending time with Jean's family. They were married for almost 18 years before Jean's death on February 13, 2007. Survivors include one sister, Virginia Monte, Caldwell, Idaho; five nieces and one nephew. He shared 6 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren with his second wife, Jean. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wives Thora and Jean; five sisters and two brothers. Graveside Services in his honor will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 9, 2010, at the Ammon Cemetery, 4950 East Sunnyside Road, Ammon, Idaho, under the direction of Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 S. Ammon Road.
