CLARON U. PRATT
IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Claron Ure Pratt, 93, of Bountiful, Utah, died Sunday, April 27, 2003 surrounded by family at the home of his daughter, Jeanne Groberg, in Idaho Falls, Idaho.
He was born February 15, 1910, in Centerville, Utah, to Mathoni Wood Pratt and Agnes Jones Ure Pratt. Claron was the last surviving grandson of Parley Parker Pratt.
He graduated from Granite High School and attended LDS Business College. On October 3, 1934, he married Virginia Reeves in the Salt Lake Temple. They had four children: Robert LeGrande Pratt (Colorado Springs, Colorado), Richard Stephen Pratt (deceased), Jeanne Pratt Groberg (Idaho Falls, Idaho), and Sharon Pratt Wilbur (Bountiful, Utah).
He turned his love of flying into a lifelong career with United Airlines, first as a Captain, then as Flight Manager, then as the Assistant Director of Flight Standards. Claron and Virginia have lived the last year in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Previous homes were in: Salt Lake City, Utah; Denver, Colorado; Littleton, Colorado; and, for the last 25 years, in Bountiful, Utah.
He served in the “India-China-Burma” theater during World War II ferrying supplies over “the Hump” (Himalaya Mountains). He was an Air Force base commander in India and retired as a Lt. Col. For his outstanding service he was awarded the Legion of Merit, the Special Breast Order of Yun Hui, the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal and 3 bronze stars.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in many callings, including: High Priest Group Leader, member of Ward and Stake Sunday School and MIA Presidencies, and as a scout leader, class instructor, and stake farm coordinator.
His hobbies were swimming, wrestling, motorcycles, airplanes, pistol/rifle shooting, woodworking, hiking, horses, farming, cattle raising, golfing, and always first and foremost, family, family, family.
Survivors include his beloved wife; children and their spouses: Robert and Heilke Pratt, Jeanne and Joseph Groberg, Sharon and Curtis Wilbur; daughter-in-law, Carolyn Pratt; 19 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m., April 30, 2003 at the Mueller Park 8th Ward, 1320 East 1975 South, Bountiful, Utah. Friends may visit one hour prior to the services at the church.
Burial will be in the Bountiful City Cemetery under the direction of Wood Funeral Home.
