Chris Alan Orton, 70, of Idaho Falls, passed away on May 21, 2026, at Caring Hearts Assisted Living in Pocatello, Idaho.
He was born April 26, 1956, in Bakersfield, California, to Delbert Junior Orton and Alberta Hansen Orton. Chris grew up and attended schools in both Bakersfield and Goshen, Idaho, later graduating from Firth High School. He went on to further his education at Eastern Idaho Technical College.
Chris established his home in Idaho Falls, Idaho, where he dedicated his career to working in maintenance for School District #91. Known for his exceptional hands-on skills, Chris was deeply talented at building, repairs and mechanics, always willing to fix what was broken.
An avid outdoorsman, he found his greatest joy in nature. Whether he was camping, dirt biking, hunting, fishing or 4-wheeling, Chris truly loved the adventure of the open air.
Chris will be remembered not only for his talents and love of the outdoors, but for his kindness and willingness to lend a helping hand. Above all, Chris loved his children and family and cherished the time he spent with them. He was especially proud of the lives they built and the families they created.
Chris is survived by his son, Jon Orton of Idaho Falls, ID; daughter, Kayla Nate of Genesee, ID; sister, Delva Orton; brother, Delbert Orton; sister, Roberta Cole; and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Cora John.
A memorial gathering for friends and family will be held from 6:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, June 12, 2026, at Wood Funeral Home, 273 North Ridge Avenue.
