CHLOE PACKER MARTIN
IDAHO FALLS, ID -- A life-long resident of Idaho Falls, Chloe Martin passed away November 30, 2002. Noted for the passion she had for golf - a sport she began at age sixteen - Chloe was one of the most distinguished women golfers in Southeastern Idaho. Often pictured on the Post Register's sports page, Chloe held the Pinecrest Golf Course record of 80 until 1957 and won numerous state tournament championships as well. Her greatest golf moment came when she hit a hole-in-one on the seventh hole of Pinecrest in May, 1965. With a southerly wind to her back . . . using a six iron . . . [Chloe] hit short of the seventh hole green's left boundary, but the ball rolled on into the cup (Post Register, May 1, 1965). Chloe spent scores of hours promoting the game of golf as president and member of the Idaho Falls Women's Golf Association and state director and social chairman of the Idaho State Women's Golf Association.
During the winter months, Chloe worked first at the Post Register and eventually for School District #91, as secretary to School Superintendent Clair E. Gale, a position she revered and always held close to her heart.
Chloe was born to Nathan Alvin Packer and Cliff Crabtree Packer in Idaho Falls, Idaho. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, her seven siblings - Jim Packer, Lucille Vohs, Margaret Payne, Raymond (Bus) Packer, Elizabeth Swanson, Jack Packer, and Dean Packer - and her husband, Henry S. Martin, District Judge of Idaho Falls.
Chloe is survived by her two children: Simon S. Martin and Margaret (Margie) Kennedy; her daughter-in-law, Delores Ann Martin; her son-in-law, Keith T. Kennedy; and her three grandchildren: Spencer Henry Martin, Nathan Martin Kennedy, and Erin Kristina Kennedy (John) Nazario.
Many people played a special role caring for Chloe in her later years - Kris Poloski, Quality Care, and the Fairwinds Retirement Community to name just a few.
Graveside Services will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 4, 2002 under the direction of Wood Funeral Home. Pastor Dennis Falasco of the First Presbyterian Church will officiate at the services.
