Chester Herbert Berry, 88, of Idaho Falls, passed away July 10, 2015, at his home. He was under the care of Hands of Hope Hospice.
Chester was born November 21, 1926, in Winslow, Maine, to Ernest Henry Berry and Viola Bertha McCaslin Berry. He grew up and attended schools in Winslow and graduated from Winslow High School. He worked as a bobbin boy and weaver at a woolen mill in Vassallboro, Maine. He served as a Seaman 1st Class with the U.S. Navy during World War II.
On May 24, 1947, he married Beverlie Gladys Grendell in Maine. To this union were born six children, Jon, Brenda, Bethany, Julie, Leslie, and Karen. Chester and Beverlie retired to Idaho Falls, Idaho, in 2002, after working to build LDS churches all over the Northeastern United States.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served two missions, served as Branch President, a Scout Leader, High Priest Group Leader, Ward Mission Leader, and as a teacher. He was an accomplished woodcarver and wood worker.
Chester is survived by
son, Jon S (Linda) Berry of Rexburg, ID; daughters, Brenda (Hal) Peck of Tolland, CT; Bethany (Roger) Corless of Aiken, SC; Julie Brooks of Idaho Falls, ID; Leslie (Stephan) Ohngren of Ucon, ID; Karen (Eric) Thiel of Ammon, ID; brother, Ted Berry of Cottonwood, CA; 25 grandchildren and 41 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, brothers, Bud & Mickey Berry, sisters, Flora Ellis, and Christine Berry.
Funeral Services will be held at noon Wednesday, July 15, 2015, at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 South Ammon Road, with Bishop Terrill Nielson officiating. The family will visit with friends from 7:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. Tuesday and 11:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. prior to services, both times at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Ammon Cemetery.
Military Rites will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Memorial Team.
