Craig S Karren Dear family, I am sorry for your loss. Charolette influence will be missed by everyone who knew her. May God bless and comfort you at this time. With Love, Craig & Kristie Karren Nancy Pitcher mert2010@cableone.net Karen, I am thankful you called to tell me about Charlotte's passing. Ever since that call I can think of nothing but my memories of your family, including your beloved parents. Sometimes people come into the life of others to enrich us and to help prepare us to be better citizens and dedicated faithful members of the Church. I felt and still feel that way when I think of Afton and Maureen. In fact, I hold precious a letter she wrote me as a beehive which I read regularly. She taught me the real meaning of a daughter of God. And you kids! We share a lot of joint history between the Orchards and Lances don't we? It seemed that there was always a Lance to match with an Orchard. Gary and Noel (J.R,) and later my husband Mike and Gary. Charlotte with both myself and my brother Mike Lance. Duane with Nancy, Mike and Roy. Who could forget the 24th of July floats on which we rode. What a pretty little group we were. At Betty Smith's (Lynn) Beverly told me of the year that bears got into our camp at Darby. Oh yes! I remember it well. Charlotte asked me to protect her (of course I would). But when bedtime came, I grabbed a sleeping bag in the middle of the tent. Charlotte said that I forgot all about her and I probably did. So my Mike Pitcher and I bought and sent Charlotte a nice bag of gummy bears as an apology. I still have pictures when we were the victims of Sister Breiter's creative dancing. "The dance of the brides". I felt real dumb about that one and quit. But then there was a number in which we young beauties were to entertain during intermission at a Gold and Green Ball. Get this we were adorned in either pink or lavender taffeta with a full gathered net top skirt. Lovely yes, graceful not a chance. There were four of us girls who were to do flying leaps from each of the four corners of the gym, converge in the center and circle around. You must remember how "thin" I was not. I looked like one of the floating balloons in the Macy Thanksgiving Parade. My partner across the room was Jery Taylor (Schrader); we looked off to the side and saw my brothers and several of their friend hee hawing at our lack of skill. I was so nervous I leaped and leaped and leaped right pass my partner. I believe Charlotte was right on the money. Finally I recall all of our age group Duane, Charlotte, Nancy, Jery, Mike Lance and Lynn Smith were drafted by Sister Breiter to form a singing group. We were to sing at a stake Gold and Green Ball in the old stake center. "Buttons and Bows" was the song. During a practice session, Sister Breiter moved me next to my friends Duane and Lynn Smith because I was tall. I swear she told me to mouth the words since I can't carry a tune if someone handed it to me on a platter. Charlotte was in young women's, primary, and Sunday school with me. She was always quiet, had a ready smile and would do all she could to provide you with a happy day. After I graduate from BYU, I headed to Seattle and worked there for several years. When I returned I purposely found a home in the 7th ward. Charlotte was there. She was just as sweet and kind as always. For many years after Mike and I were married, we often had the opportunity to visit with and renew our friendship with Charlotte. The world needs many more people just like Charlotte Orchard. She certainly did her part to help make the world and those around her just a little bit better. Yes I am saddened at her passing. I know she is in a happier place. Someone once said that God gave us memory so that we could have roses in December. The same is true with us. We have priceless memories to review and ponder often. Be happy in your memories of dear Charlotte, I know I will. My Mike is from Smithfield Utah. We pause at the Lewiston Cemetery every now and again to visit the graves of Bishop and Sister Orchard and now Charlotte. I'll end with saying how much I valued the goodness, friendship, and support from the entire Orchard family. Thank you Charlotte for being a great friend. I know I will see you again. Until then, take care. Nancy Lance Pitcher Marcy 30, 2010 p.s. If any of you feel so inclined it would great to receive and email updating me about your lives. I will do the same with you. p.s.s. I forgot to explain. I had planned to come. But after talking with my doctor's nurse, I was advised to stay home until this current Asthma attack is under control. This is the 5th week of coughing, choking and...well you can image. Anyway, I will be there in spirit. NP Clint & Julie Loveland lovelandclint45@gmail.com Tonight we learned of the passing of your sweet sister Charlotte from Marilyn Poulsen. She lives in our Brigham City ward. What fond memories I have of her at school; at church; but especially in your home. Your home was always one of welcome and kindness. She will be missed by you, but what a wonderful reunion she is having with your parents and Gary! I always felt like she was a tender, gracious, and genteel, spiritual woman. The Gospel is such a comfort and blessing. Our prayers go out to each of you. Love Clint and Julie Loveland 15 April 2010
