Charles Alma Scoresby, 77, lifelong resident of Iona, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 10, 2012 following a courageous battle with prostate and bone cancer. He was under the care of his loving family, the caring staff at The Gables of Ammon, and Avalon Home Health. Charles was born November 28, 1934 in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Clifford Norman Scoresby and Johanna L. Horman Scoresby. He attended school in Iona and graduated from Bonneville High School. He married Sherry Mae Hansen on November 10, 1966 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They made their home on the Scoresby family farm east of Iona, where they farmed and ranched and taught their family the value of hard work. As an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Charles served in various capacities, including: a proselyting mission to Australia; counselor in the bishopric; Executive Secretary; Sunday School President; Church Facilities Coordinator; and as a dedicated home teacher. Charles enjoyed working the land. He was a masterful farmer and had a working knowledge of this areas water system that will be sorely missed. He was meticulous about his field work and made the straightest dikes. He could often be seen on a summer’s day changing water with a shovel in his hands. Charles built his cattle herd from just a few head. He loved sending them to the hills every spring and bringing them home every fall. He had an eye for cattle that stamped his herd. Neighbors will miss Charles’ roadside conversations, as he always made time to visit with friends.
