Charles Michael "Mike" Cole

Charles Michael (Mike) Cole Sr., 83, of Idaho Falls, passed away February 6, 2024, at his home.

Mike was born February 17, 1940, in Lamar, Colorado, to Reuben Echols Cole and Mary Elizabeth Patricia King Cole. He grew up and attended schools in Los Alamos, Albuquerque Public Schools and graduated from Highland High School. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of New Mexico.

On December 26, 1959, he married Sharon Lea Noel in Albuquerque, New Mexico. They had four children: Michelle, Tamara, Michael, and Christopher. They were married for over 20 years, but later divorced.

Mike made a 40-year career at the Idaho National Labs as a mechanical engineer. His work was in the design and building of nuclear systems, including technologies for safety and waste material handling and storage still used today.

In June 1985, he married Patricia Jean Nicholas and they lived in Idaho Falls, Idaho. They were later divorced.

Mike was a member of the Elks Club for 50 years. He enjoyed cross country motorcycle racing, auto restoration, home repairs and remodeling, building jigsaw puzzles, and playing softball in the summer leagues at Tautphaus Park.

Mike is survived by his son, Charles Michael Jr. aka Michael (Angela) Cole of Idaho Falls, ID; daughters, Michelle (Rick) Hallett of Beaverton, OR, and Tamara Cole of Tijeras, NM; brother, Donald Cole of Estancia, NM; and his special friend, Judith Broadfoot of Idaho Falls, ID. Mike is also survived by 4 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and many nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Gerald Cole; the mother of his children, Sharon Cole; Patricia Nicholas; and his youngest son, Christopher.

His survivors will always carry his memory in their hearts.

The family invites you to visit and celebrate Mike's life on Saturday April 27th, 2024, 12 p.m. to 4 p.m., at the Elks Lodge Room at 640 East Elva Street. A light lunch/ hors d' oeuvres will be served.

In lieu of flowers, the family appreciates memorial contributions towards something special for those who cared for Dad's health and welfare.
