IDAHO FALLS, ID --
Charles (Charlie) Just passed peacefully in his home after a brief illness, surrounded by his loving family.
Charlie was born October 29, 1927, to Alvin and Dora (Hilliard) Just in Presto, along the banks of the Blackfoot River, scion to one of the oldest ranching families in the state of Idaho. He attended schools in Lower Presto and graduated valedictorian from Firth High School, where he was captain of the football and basketball teams and Student Body President.
Charlie served honorably in the U. S. Armed Forces as a military policeman in the occupation forces in Japan. He obtained a business degree from Idaho Falls Business College.
Charlie may best be remembered as a local business owner and community civic and political leader. He was an entrepreneur growing a number of Army surplus stores (Just Army Stores) in the 1950's. In the early 1960's he purchased Snowballs Sporting Goods and later partnered in the Mart, Ace Hardware and then established Just's Appliance Stores. Charlie served as President of the Idaho Future Farmers of America, Idaho Falls Chamber of Commerce, Kiwanis and Jaycees. He also held leadership positions in the Masons, Shriners and Elk Clubs and was a founding member of the I.F. Country Club. As President of the Idaho Falls Downtown Urban Renewal Project, they were successful in obtaining Government grants to reclaim land and build what is now the downtown library. He also served on the Board of Directors of the Museum of Idaho. Charlie helped and mentored many of our current community and political leaders. Charlie was known as a people person, his quick sense of humor, his story telling, his kindness and charity, never turning down a person in need.
The Idaho Falls community has lost a leader and the world will not be the same without this kind and charitable man.
Charlie is survived by his high school sweet heart and loving wife of 63 years, Thora (Johnson) Just, his brothers Gary and Frank (Cheryl), and children, Charles (Chuck), Janet Hill (Mike), James (Betsy) and Joel (Ann), eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Charlie and Thora's marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS. Temple in 2002.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 22, 2009, at the Idaho Falls LDS Boulevard Ward, 351 West 14th Street. The Just family will greet friends and family Tuesday from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home, 273 North Ridge Avenue, and Wednesday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. prior to services at the church. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. Military Rites will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Memorial Team and the Idaho Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, the Just family would be honored to have memorial contributions made to the Museum of Idaho at 200 N. Eastern Avenue, Idaho Falls, ID 83402.

To Thora and all the family, I will always miss that greeting "well, how the heck are you?". He was a wonderful person and a wonderful brother-in-law. Our condolences and love to all of you.

Although I did not know Charlie well, he was very close to my grandma Phyllis and my mother, Ladene. He was always nice and cordial. He was very generous with opening his and Thora's home to all of us for reunions. One of my fondest memories with him was after my grandma died & he offered our family to visit her house anytime. (He had purchased it while she was living). I always felt welcome and I really appreciated that. I will be praying for the family.
God Bless, Julie
