After a long, hard winter, Charles Boyd Haskell passed away at the age of 82, at Eastern Idaho Medical Center.
Charlie, or Boyd, as he was called, depending on the age you met him, was born September 21, 1943, in Rigby, Idaho, to Eddie Oliver Haskell and Vern Lucille Hancock Haskell. Charlie made his home in Ririe where he worked as a union truck driver, until his retirement at the age of 57. He was always proud to be a member of the Teamsters Union.
When Charlie was young, his mother took him to the Presbyterian Church in Idaho Falls. He lived in Ririe until he was fourteen, where played in the streets, swam in the canals, and got into trouble. He always helped his dad haul milk for the Kraft Cheese Factory in Ririe. He moved to Idaho Falls when his parents bought a home on Bower Drive. He graduated from Idaho Falls High School in 1962.
In 1966, a few years after graduating from high school, he moved to Seattle, Washington, with his best friend, Brent Summers, to work for Boeing. Charlie later moved to San Diego and worked for Lockheed Martin. He then moved back to Ririe after purchasing his dad’s milk route and started hauling milk 365 days a year, seldom taking vacation. He later sold the milk route and started working for local construction companies including Reinhart, HK, Burggraf, and Egan Construction. His last job was at the INL working for Newport News. He spent the rest of his life in Ririe.
Charlie loved bowling, shooting pool, camping with family and friends, hunting, fishing, boating, and golfing. He loved football every Sunday, and then moved on to loving NASCAR. He loved having a cold one with his friends.
In 1986, his only child, Jeffery Charles Haskell, was born. Charlie spent many days watching Jeff play hockey, camping together, fishing, and tinkering in the shop helping him with building school projects, and later just hanging out.
In 1988, while working for Burgraff Construction in Yellowstone National Park, Charlie was in a head-on collision with another ten-wheeler. Although he survived, he had many years of physical and emotional hardships. To say he lived his 9 lives would be an understatement.
Charlie is survived by his son, Jeff (Lita) Haskell; nephew, Steve Haskell; nieces, Kim Haskell and Michelle Williams; great nieces, Alexis Haskell and Hillary Larsen; and great nephews, Justin Talbot and Casey Larsen.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, Eddie and Verna Haskell; brother, Ralph (Ruth) Haskell; and his precious niece, Lisa Larsen.
