CHARLES BATEMAN IDAHO FALLS, IDAHO -- Charles Weldon Bateman, 83, of Idaho Falls, died March 17, 2010, at Good Samaritan Village of natural causes. Charles, fondly known as Chuck, was born July 16, 1926, in Idaho Falls, the son of Charles and Amy Bateman. After graduation from Idaho Falls High School, he attended the University of Idaho for two years and then served in the U. S. Army during World War II from 1944-1945. Following the war, he worked for a time at the U & I Sugar factory in Lincoln and then became an electrician. On December 27, 1946, he married Joan Wilson of Twin Falls, Idaho, with whom he had two children, Nancy and Rodney. Joan died in 1992. On June 19, 1993, Chuck married Jackie Holm of Idaho Falls. Chuck was associated with Idaho Falls Electric Company for several years and then became an independent electrical contractor. He served for 15 years on the Idaho State Electrical Board and taught apprentice electricians. Chuck was an accomplished musician during the Big Band Era and his dance orchestra played throughout Southeastern Idaho for many years. An avid softball player and golfer, Chuck was a member of the Idaho Falls Country Club for 28 years, serving for a time as president. He was a Chuckars baseball and Utah Jazz basketball fan and collected stamps, coins, and Indian arrowheads. Chuck had a great love for dogs and for all animals. He was a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church. He is survived by his daughter, Nancy; and grandchildren, Steven, Daniel, Ryan and Amy. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joan; son, Rodney; and siblings, Virgie, Edward, Linden Sr., Lela, Wanda, Betty and JoAnne. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, March 22, 2010, at Wood Funeral Home (273 N. Ridge Ave.) with the Reverend Susan Speir, rector of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, officiating. The family will visit with friends from 1 - 1:45 p.m. prior to the services at the church. Burial will be in the Taylor Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, it is suggested that contributions be made to the Idaho Humane Society, c/o Chris Moore, 4775 Dorman, Boise, ID 83705 or the Outreach Center, c/o Cher Stone, 301 S.
