Charlene Hughes Traveller, 76, of Idaho Falls; known to many as “Charlie”, “Grandma C”, “Candy Granny” and the “Demo Lady”; passed away on July 8, 2015, at her home.
She was born November 3, 1938, in Enville, Tennessee to Charles De Hughes and Edna Nancy Josephine Kent Hughes. She grew up in the area and graduated from the Chester County High School in Henderson, Tennessee.
Charlene moved to Lewisville, Idaho when she married Roger Sauer. There she raised four children, cows, pigs, and worked at Ellsworth Potatoes. She and Roger later divorced. She moved to Idaho Falls and on March 20, 1989, she married Bart Lee Traveller. With Bart she enjoyed grandchildren, several adopted cats and dogs, cooking, and their beautiful yard and flowers.
Charlene worked for many years as a waitress at Westbank, Lebarons and Cedrics. She also worked at GPOD in Shelley, Idaho. She was happiest when she was working several jobs. Later in life as she “slowed down” she demonstrated products and could be seen talking in local stores as a Product Demo Lady. She also volunteered at the Idaho Falls Food Bank, Soup Kitchen and her grandchildren’s elementary schools.
Charlene loved to talk and never went anywhere that she didn’t meet someone she knew or whom she could talk with. She believed in family, miracles, getting good deals, hard work and prayer.
