Celia Thompson Jones, 90, of Idaho Falls, passed away December 7, 2017, at Lincoln Court Retirement Community. She was under the care of Onesource Home Health and Hospice and her loving family. Celia was born April 7, 1927, to Joseph and Ladella Thompson in Paris, Idaho. The family moved to Idaho Falls, Idaho, while she was still an infant, so that her father could work on the Snake River Dam. When she was about two years old, her parents purchased a small home on five acres in Ammon, Idaho, where she grew up, and attended school first grade through high school. During her school years she was active in pep club, was a cheerleader, and cheer queen. She loved to sing and often sang in church and other places, sometimes with her sister or others and sang the lead in the school operetta. When she was in seventh grade she met Duane Jones also from Ammon, who would be her future husband. After high school, Duane went into the Army. When he returned from active duty, they were married on November 5, 1947, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. The next few years were spent attending college where Duane studied Veterinary Medicine at Washington State University. Summers were spent working on the family ranch at Bone, Idaho. After graduation they moved to Eugene, Oregon, and then Corning, California, where they bought a practice. Eventually, they decided to move their family back to Idaho and set up a veterinary practice in Idaho Falls, which they did in 1956. She worked very hard helping her husband build his practice, raising their children, and later on, running their ranch. Celia was active in her church and served in many callings over the years. These included Relief Society President, and a visiting teacher for over 65 years. She loved ballroom and square dancing, and was very happy when she and Duane were called to serve as dance directors. She also enjoyed interior decorating, sewing, and reading. She loved the many happy hours spent at their ranch with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, Duane, and their six children; Jackie (Bill), Craig (Karie), Blake (Teressa), Wade, Gary (Lisa), and JaLene (Craig), 19 grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren, sister, Mozel Cauble, and brother, Boyd Thompson. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Loy Campbell and Faye Sanders, and a brother Ned Thompson. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, December 15, 2017, at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 S. Ammon Road, with Bishop Brian Call of the Ammon 18th Ward officiating. The family will visit with friends from 6:30-8 p.m. Thursday and from 10-10:45 a.m. Friday prior to services at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 S. Ammon Road. Burial will be in the Ammon Cemetery.
