Cecilio Sanchez Astorga, 73, of Rigby, passed away October 14, 2023, at his home. He was under the care of OneSource Home Health and Hospice and his loving family.
Cecilio was born November 22, 1949, in Aguatita, Durango, Mexico, to Ascencion Sanchez and Rosario Astorga.
On May 22, 1973, he married Dorothy Astorga Mora in Visalia, California.
He enjoyed nature, especially the beauty of the mountains. He spent time in the mountains during his beloved days as a logger. In addition, he enjoyed hunting and working the land. At home, he planted gardens, enjoyed playing the guitar, watching boxing matches, and all-nighter poker nights. When his grandchildren arrived, those poker nights became Conquian/Loteria nights.
Cecilio was very charitable and social. He was a friend to all. He liked to gather people, which led to him organizing Spanish bailes in Southeast Idaho Region in the 1990's. His passion and love of music was never loud enough unless others enjoyed it with him, meaning the volume was at MAX.
He loved God, the scriptures, and his family. His grandchildren loved when he prepared pollo y frijoles and called him masterchef. Although his family may disagree, Ford trucks were the best and his favorite.
Cecilio is survived by his wife, Dorothy Astorga Mora of Rigby, ID; son, Acencion Astorga of Rigby, ID; son, Sesilio Astorga of Riverton, WY; daughter, Anna Maria (Wally) Gruel of Idaho Falls, ID; daughter, Marcelina (Alfredo) Pineda of Idaho Falls, ID; son, Noel Astorga of Idaho Falls, ID; son, Marco Antonio (Brendaly) Astorga of Greeley, CO; sister, Maria Juana Sanchez Carranza of Earlimart, CA; brother, Isabel Sanchez Astorga of Earlimart, CA; sister, Dora Sanchez Astorga of Cosala, Sinaloa; 18 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; and 7 great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ascencion Sanchez; mother, Rosario Astorga; brother, Lucio; sister, Marcelina; brother, Pedro; brother, Elias; brother, Eusebio; brother, Virginio; and half brother, Francisco.
Cecilio will be missed immensely by his family and many friends. His family will keep him in their hearts forever. The family would like to thank all of the staff nurses at OneSource Home Health and Hospice.
