Catherine attended Idaho Falls schools including Emerson Elementary, O.E. Bell Junior High and Idaho Falls High School, where she graduated in 1944. After high school her first job was at Challenge Dairy in Idaho Falls. She moved to California in 1947, where she worked for the University of California at Berkeley. Cathryn attended flight attendant training in Texas after which she went to work for Western Airlines. The airlines at the time were primarily flying servicemen around the country in support of the Korean War. It was on one of these flights that she met Walter E. Fohrenck. They were married in 1952 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Idaho Falls. They were later divorced. Along with being a stewardess, Cathryn worked as a secretary for the Atomic Energy Commission in the early 1950's. She also worked as a secretary/bookkeeper for the accounting firm of Karst & O'Brien. The majority of her career was spent with First Federal Savings and Loan where she retired as Office Manager after 30 years in 1989. For several years after her retirement Cathryn enjoyed weekly outings with her good friends which might include anything from a card party to a luncheon date. She loved sewing, particularly embroidery and made each of her daughters and granddaughters quilts and dish towels. Cathryn was a mother to three children. Her oldest daughter, Roberta Kay Arrowood, resides in Boise. Her son, William Carl Fohrenck, resides in Idaho Falls with his wife, Terri. Cathryn's youngest daughter, Gretchen Ann Criddle, resides in Iona with her husband, Scott. As a grandmother to nine grandchildren she enjoyed the time spent with each one of them. Other survivors include three sisters, Alita Hartert of Shelley, Elma Lott of boise, and Donna Hartley of Sacramento, California; two brothers, Kenneth McCowin of Idaho Falls and Clifford McCowin of Long Beach, California, and a very special sister-in-law, Mrs. Kenneth (Uvon) McCowin.
