Carrie Getty Scheid, a devoted advocate for the arts, education, and her community, passed away on October 21, 2025. Born April 18, 1954, in New London, Connecticut, to Edward Charles and Susan Lee Getty, Carrie's life was marked by her unwavering commitment to enriching the lives of others.

A graduate of Waterford High School and Colby College, where she majored in East Asian Studies and studied in Japan, Carrie earned her Master's Degree in Communication from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. She launched her career at Excelsior College in Albany, New York, helping adults access educational opportunities before moving to New York City to serve as Development Director and Vice President of Operations for the Better Business Bureau.

In 1994, she relocated to Idaho Falls, Idaho, leading the restoration and revitalization of the Willard Arts Center and Colonial Theater. As Executive Director of the Idaho Falls Arts Council, Carrie championed arts accessibility, youth programming, and the creation of enduring public art projects, including the beloved Snake River Roaring Youth Jam and ARTitorium. Her efforts earned her the Idaho Governor's "Excellence in Art Administration" award and lasting admiration throughout the region.

In January 2008, Carrie married the love of her life, Jerry Scheid. A great highlight of her life was learning about ranching life from Jerry, and they enjoyed many good times at Jerry's ranch in Idaho Falls and in the Centennial Valley, including a 14-mile picturesque trail ride through the valley.

Carrie's service extended into civic engagement--she helped establish the College of Eastern Idaho, advocated for downtown revitalization, and promoted nonprofit collaboration through the Idaho Nonprofit Center and "Idaho Gives." Alongside her husband, Jerry Scheid, Carrie co-authored columns for the Post Register, inspiring dialogue on community issues.

Her legacy is celebrated through awards such as the Idaho Falls Mayor's Choice Award and the Cecil B Andrus Volunteer of the Year honor, but her greatest impact endures in the institutions and lives she touched with her optimism, integrity, and tireless energy.

Carrie is survived by her husband, Jerry Scheid; stepdaughters, Liz Delaney, Kathy Scheid, Darcy Romaniello, and Jessica Kielbasa; sisters, Kim Getty and Jennifer Holt; and nephew, Samuel Getty. She was preceded in death by her brother, Jeff Getty. She will live on in our hearts and through her lifelong devotion to building a vibrant, inclusive community.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 2-5 p.m. Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at the Colonial Theater, 450 A Street, Idaho Falls, Idaho. Burial will be in the Taylor Cemetery.
