Carolyn Rasmussen Thompson, 79 of American Fork, Utah passed away Sunday, March 24 at the Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.
Carolyn was born April 11,1933 in Chapin, Idaho, to Elvin Andrew and Anna LaPreal Moulton Rasmussen. She spent her early childhood in the shadow of the beautiful Grand Teton Mountain Valley. She was the seventh child and loved spending her growing up years with her four brothers and five sisters. There she attended grade school. Her oldest brother purchased the family farm from her parents and they moved to Boise, Idaho. A few years later they moved back to Rexburg where she attended Jr. High and graduated from Madison High School. She loved school and was a student body officer. She had many wonderful friends and teachers and always expressed fond memories of her childhood and teenage years. After graduating from school, she worked as a dental assistant.
She married Frank W. Thompson July 11,1952 which was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple. He passed away February 27,2012. Together they raised their family of four children, Gay, Jill, Frank and Kim in Rexburg. Carolyn was a wonderful homemaker and mother and spent her life caring for her family and serving those around her. She loved being a mother and grandmother.
A member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, she served in the presidencies of all the women's organizations and taught classes also. Upon retiring from their retail Sporting Goods business, Carolyn and her husband served an LDS mission in the Auckland, New Zealand mission. They also served on the BYU-I campus. She enjoyed her church callings very much and had an unwavering testimony of the truthfulness of the gospel.
Later they spent the winters in St. George, Utah. There she served in the St. George Temple. In 2001 they settled in American Fork, Utah to be near family. They loved their new home and LDS ward. Several months after her husband past away, she returned back home to Idaho where she lived at Fairwinds Sandcreek in Idaho Falls.
Carolyn loved traveling, reading, her flower gardens, cooking and most of all spending time with her children and grandchildren whom she adored. She was very proud of her Pioneer heritage being a descendant of the Willie Handcart Company.
