Click Here To View Memorial Video Carolee Peterson Shurts, 74, of Idaho Falls, passed away November 22, 2013, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center, following a courageous battle with cancer. Carolee was born August 16, 1939, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Kenneth William Peterson and Lana Fern Taylor Peterson. She grew up and attended area schools. She attended Idaho State University and Brigham Young University and earned her Master’s Degree at Whitworth College in Spokane, Washington, in teaching and taught at Rigby High School. Carolee lived in Shelley, Idaho, Oregon, Washington, Texas, Nebraska, and has spent the last 21 years in Idaho Falls. On December 26, 1969, Carolee married Henry Wayne Shurts in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. From this union they were blessed with six children. Carolee was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served a full-time mission in New Zealand in her youth. She later served in various capacities including; organist, Cub Scout Leader and Relief Society President. She enjoyed cooking, canning, sewing, Scouting, traveling and spending time with her grandchildren. Carolee is survived by her loving husband of 42 years, Wayne Shurts of Idaho Falls, ID; Son: Peter (Mimi) Shurts of Everest, WA Daughter: Christy Shurts of Spring, TX Daughter: Mary Ponte of Portland, OR Daughter: Amy (Reno) Shurts of Madison, WI Son: Jonathan (Brandy) Shurts of Idaho Falls, ID Son: Timothy Shurts of Idaho Falls, ID Mother: Fern Peterson of Idaho Falls, ID Brother: John (Madge) Peterson of Tri Cities, WA Brother: Paul (Debra) Peterson of Green River, WY Brother: Robert (Nancy) Peterson of Idaho Falls, ID Sister: Judy (Gerald) Pratt of Bountiful, UT Sister: Margaret Kennely of Idaho Falls, ID 13 Grandchildren and 2 Great Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father, Kenneth Peterson. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 30, 2013, at the Idaho Falls LDS Lincoln 6th Ward, 3102 Pinnacle Drive, with Bishop Fred Gooch officiating. The family will visit with friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 S. Ammon Road, and from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. Saturday prior to services at the church. Burial will be in Taylor Cemetery.
