Carol Swensen James, 82, of Idaho Falls, slipped away September 7, 2015, at Morningstar Senior Living Center.
Carol was born June 27,1933, in Iona, Idaho, the sixth child born to Christian Swensen and Lillian Ames Swensen. She graduated from Iona High School, where she was salutatorian and Pep Club President. Later in life, she earned an Associate Degree at Ricks College in Rexburg.
Carol began working at the Naval Reactors Facility, where she met a young Navy trainee from Virginia and on September 23, 1955, she married Robert Nathan (Bob) James in Idaho Falls. The young couple travelled extensively while their family grew to include three children, Marcy, Bob and Julie. Carol was proud to serve as a Navy wife, raising their children while Bob served our country at home and overseas. In 1970, she met the challenge of becoming a Navy widow with young children when Bob passed away suddenly.
She returned to Idaho and resumed working at the Naval Reactors Facility, where she was employed as an Administrative Assistant.
She was an active member of St. John's Episcopal Church for many years, serving in the vestry, altar guild and choir. She loved music, singing, dancing, genealogy and especially children.
Carol was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Nathan James; her father and mother, Christian and Lillian Swensen; sisters Helen Olson, Anna Virginia Jackson and Beth Summers; brothers Keith and Ray Swensen, and a grandson.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Marcy (Bud) Meador of Roanoke, Virginia; Robert (Jackie) James of Eugene, Oregon; and Julie (Rod) Hand of Mackey, Idaho; her brothers, Lawrence (Vicki) Swensen of St. George, Utah; and Robert (Irene) Swensen of West Valley City, Utah; her very special friend, Joe Dominguez and his family of Idaho Falls; her 5 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and many, many friends.
