Carlton "Bud" Harris

CARLTON "BUD" HARRIS UCON, ID -- Carlton Alfred "Bud" Harris, of Ucon, Idaho, passed away January 29, 2010, at St. Luke's Hospital in Meridian, Idaho, after a prolonged battle with respiratory disease. Bud was born July 31, 1924, in Holly, Michigan, to Carlton Jefferson Harris and Adeline Baker Harris. He spent the first 11 years of his life living in Michigan and Arizona. In 1935, his family moved to Anchorage, Alaska, where his father found employment with the Railroad Company. Bud was famous for his stories of his Alaskan teen years and often remarked that he had a "very happy childhood." While living in Alaska he fell in love with hunting, fishing, his sled dog team, and most importantly, SKIING. His skiing lead him to numerous competitions and trophies. He was in the midst of training in Sun Valley, Idaho, for the Winter Olympics when they were canceled due to World War II. In 1942, Bud enlisted in the U. S. Navy as a Deep Sea Diver and served in the Asiatic Pacific Area until 1945. Upon his release he moved to Provo, Utah, to work as an iron worker for Geneva Steel. While living in Provo, he met, courted and fell in love with Wanda June Harris of Cut Bank, Montana. They were married on January 24, 1948, in Las Vegas, Nevada, and later were sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple in 1957. Bud and Wanda spent the first six years of their married life working in Utah, Idaho, Kentucky and back in Idaho, where they settled down and began raising their family. In 1960, Bud and Wanda were called to serve church building missions for the LDS Church. They served in England and Cleveland, Ohio, until 1967. After their missions they moved back to Ucon, Idaho, where Bud worked as a general contractor until he retired. Bud is preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Adeline Dunwig, and a daughter, Carrie Alora Harris. He is survived by his sweetheart, Wanda Harris, his daughters, Carla Harris (Rexburg, ID), Cathy Harris Smith (Park City, UT), Calleen Harris-Sitz (Boise, ID), eight grand children and eight great-grandchildren. To his surviving family members, Bud, was the best kind of man there could be. He was the most loving, caring and genuine man who cared very much for everyone who crossed his path. He will be greatly missed and his wonderful memory will live on for many generations to come. To everyone who truly knew Bud, he was the pure definition of a "Best Friend." He was a man of great integrity and honesty, who set a quiet, loving example for his posterity. Through the example he created a lasting pattern that his family will honorably try to follow. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, February 2, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at the Milo LDS 2nd Ward, 12127 North 75 East, with Bishop Vern Piquet officiating. The family will visit with friends Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge, and Tuesday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the church. Burial will follow in the Ucon Cemetery. Military Rites will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Memorial Team and the Idaho Honor Guard. ---------------------------------------------------- Condolences received online: Becky Sharp Gerdes rbgerdes@ida.net Dear Cathy and family, We are so sorry to hear your father passed away. We know your dad is in a better place and with your sister. Please know you are in our thoughts and prayers. We are so grateful for the plan of salvation and the comfort that only our Savior, Jesus Christ, can give to us. Love, Becky Sharp Gerdes and family. DeeAnn Miller Stoddard deeannstoddard@hotmail.com Your husband and father was such a great man. He was my bishop when I graduated from primary and helped our family during some rough years. I greatly appreciate the service he gave me in taking me skiing with Calleen every Saturday. Fond memories of listening to Nat King Cole and enjoying Wheat Thins and V-8 juice during our travels to Grand Targhee. During those years, my family struggled financially, but Bishop and Sister Harris always made me feel that I was welcome and treated me in a very gracious manner. They also taught me how to water ski. Bishop Harris was a very patient and kind man. I really appreciate the opportunities he and Sister Harris provided me to work as a "clean-up" girl on their new house and do light housekeeping. My prayers and love go out to your wonderful family With love--DeeAnn Stoddard Larry and Lou Campbell larryandlou@gmail.com Dear Wanda and girls, We were saddened to hear of the loss of your husband and father.
