It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Carlos Kay Watts, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother on May 24, 2025, at the age of 70 years old.
Carlos was born on November 18, 1954, in Ashton, Idaho, to Leland and Mary Watts. Throughout his life, Carlos was known for causing trouble from a young age and teasing tirelessly to all those who could take it, and even some who couldn’t. Carlos was known for his service to the community as a police officer, a baseball coach, and to his church. He served as a police officer in St. Anthony for nearly 30 years where he exemplified integrity, bravery, and compassion while serving his community. In 1979, he began volunteering as a youth baseball coach, which continued up until most recently as an assistant coach with the Bandits Baseball Academy in 2024. He used this time to teach life lessons through a game he loved and helped foster that love in thousands of young men. Carlos was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served in several callings. His favorite service came in the temple where he served for 10 ½ years in the Gilbert, AZ, Kona, HI, and Idaho Falls, ID Temples.
Carlos and Cookie were married on February 11, 1978 (they were sealed in the LDS Temple on June 24, 1979) and shared a bond that inspired everyone around them. Through the years, they nurtured a relationship filled with laughter, adventure, and a deep understanding of one another. Together, they created a warm and loving home, where family values and traditions flourished.
As a devoted husband, Carlos was a constant source of strength and encouragement for Cookie. He cherished her, celebrated her successes, and stood by her side during challenging times. Their love story was one of mutual respect and admiration, a true testament to what it means to be partners in life. Most recently, they cherished their time together traveling to as many destinations as they possibly could.
Carlos was a dedicated father who poured his heart and soul into raising his kids. He instilled in them the values of determination, hard work, and integrity. His unwavering support and encouragement shaped them into the remarkable individuals they are today. Carlos took immense pride in their achievements, celebrating every milestone and cheering them on in their pursuits.
As a grandfather, Carlos’s joy knew no bounds. He cherished his grandchildren, showering them with love, wisdom, and laughter. From storytelling sessions to hours of relentless teasing, Carlos created lasting memories that will forever be etched in their hearts. He taught them the importance of family, faith, and community, ensuring his legacy would continue for generations to come.
Carlos is survived by his wife, Cookie Watts; children, Cherish Watts Martin (Brandon), Joldy Watts (Carrie), Jaime Watts Westlund (David), and Levi Watts (Joslyn); his sixteen grandchildren and one great grandchild; and his brother, Kerry Watts.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Leland and Mary Watts; brothers, Gale Watts and Kit Watts; and sister, Shirley Ransom.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 31, 2025, at the Ammon 11th Ward, 1100 S. Tiebreaker Drive.
