Bertha Carlene Olaveson Youngstrom, 94, of Idaho Falls, passed away January 14, 2011, at Life Care Center of Idaho Falls.
Carlene was born September 5, 1916, in Rigby, Idaho, to Carl Christen Olaveson and Bertha Burton Ballantyne Olaveson. She attended Menan Elementary School and graduated from Midway High School.
On November 20, 1935, she married Hyrum Enoch Youngstrom in Garfield, Idaho. Together they raised five children. Carlene earned her LPN in nursing in San Diego, California. She worked in the nursing field for 27 years.
Carlene was very patriotic and upheld the Constitution. She stayed sharp and read current events everyday.
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings, including primary teacher, visiting teacher, and a teacher in the Relief Society. She served a Temple Mission in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple, where she developed a strong testimony of the Savior and passed that love of Him on to her children.
She loved singing. She had a beautiful voice and sang in the "Singing Mothers.” She enjoyed daily scripture reading and was interested in anything having to do with science, astronomy, and crafts. She also enjoyed playing the organ and crocheting.

Son-in-Law, Ralph Miller; Daughter-in-Law, Shari Youngstrom; Brother-in-Law, Thomas Miller; 17 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren. Carlene was preceded in death by her parents; five sisters: Lila Rae Olaveson (infant), Maxine Schill, Vada Miller, Thelma Anderson, and Donna Quigg; her husband, Hyrum; her daughter, Donna Jean; her only son, Carl Jack Youngstrom; one granddaughter, Kallie Jo Miller; and one great granddaughter, Jenna Rae Eller.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 20, 2011, at Wood East Side, 963 South Ammon Road, with Bishop Scott Noble of the Ammon LDS 16th Ward officiating. The family will visit with friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday from 1 to 1:45 p.m. prior to services, both visitations at Wood East Side. Private burial will be in the Annis-Little Butte Cemetery.
