Carlene Pace Herring, 81, of Idaho Falls, departed her earth life on June 9, 2016, at her home.  She was surrounded by her loving husband and children at the time of her passing.

Carlene was born November 20, 1934, in Price, Utah, to Carlyle Pace and Florence Lorraine Biggs Pace.  She grew up and attended schools in Price, Utah and graduated from Carbon High School.  She also attended Carbon College and was proud of her Carbon County roots. She later attended Utah State University and earned both her Bachelor’s degree in Education and her Master’s Degree in Counseling.

In 1954, she was married and sealed for time and all eternity to Jay Herring in the Logan LDS Temple.  She was a loving mother to three children, Jaylene, Jodi, and Jeff.  Carlene and Jay made their longtime home in Idaho Falls, where Carlene worked both at O.E Bell Junior High, Claire E. Gale Junior High, and for 42 years as a counselor at Skyline High School.

She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as Ward and Stake Relief Society President, Ward and Stake Primary President, as well as numerous other callings. She was actively involved in the Boy Scouts of America and was on the executive board of the Grand Teton Council. She was award the Silver Beaver for her dedicated lifelong service to scouting. She was an avid sports fan. She enjoyed traveling the world with her husband, sisters, and children. However, her favorite role was as a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was always smiling and had a positive personality and those that knew her experienced her strength and love of life.

Carlene is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Jay Herring of Idaho Falls; daughter, Jaylene (Evan) Johnson of Idaho Falls; daughter, Jodi (Gregg) Schouten of Orem, UT; son, Jeff Carlyle (DeAnna) Herring of Draper, UT; sister, Bonnie (Thom) Nielson of Ann Arbor, MI; sister, Nancy (Jack) Hobbs of Salt Lake City, UT; 18 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father, Carlyle Pace and her mother, Florence Lorraine Pace.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 17, 2016, at Idaho Falls LDS 28th Ward, 1165 Azalea Drive, with Bishop Mark Argyle officiating.  The family will visit with friends Thursday from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home, 273 North Ridge Avenue, and Friday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m.  Burial will be in the Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery.
