Calvin C Hurley, 90, of Idaho Falls, passed away of natural causes on Sunday, April 6, 2014, at his home. He was under the care of his loving family.
Calvin was born June 3, 1923, in Ohiowa, Nebraska, to Miles VanHorn Hurley and Mary Louise Rose Hurley. When he was sixteen years old the family moved to Idaho Falls where he learned the value of hard work as a young man on the family farm. He graduated from Idaho Falls High School in 1941.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps and served our country during World War II. He was always proud to have served his country.
On September 27, 1947, he married Pauline Eleanore Nield in Ririe, Idaho. They farmed in the Ririe area before moving their young family to Idaho Falls where he rented a piece of farm ground that is now the home of Sage Lakes Golf Course. Their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple March 13, 1965. They purchased a piece of the farm land and built their family home on East River Road. Calvin began a new career at the site as a custodian, security guard, and then as a Nuclear Engineer Technician for Argonne National Laboratories until his retirement in 1985.
Pauline passed away December 2, 1995. Calvin married Alice Harris of Ririe in 1997 and she passed away in 1998. Dad later married Leah Radford on October 30, 1999. Calvin and Leah enjoyed 14 wonderful years together. They loved their snow bird trips to both St. George and Arizona. They both loved to dance and could be found out dancing almost every weekend of the year.
An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served in the Young Men and Sunday School Presidencies, as a Stake Missionary, as Ward Clerk, and worked in Spanish extraction. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, gardening, camping, and dancing. He loved BYU sports. His greatest love, however, was his family.
