C. Jon "Jon Perkins" Perkins

Jon Perkins Clifton Jon Perkins, 65, of Idaho Falls, passed away peacefully July 26, 2010, at his home, surrounded by his family. Jon was born October 28, 1944, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Donald Earl Perkins and Nancy Jeanette Clifton Perkins. He was raised in the West Valley area of Salt Lake and graduated from Cypress High School. On August 12, 1966, he married his sweetheart and the love of his life, Linda Joy Higginson of Pleasant Grove, Utah, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Jon continued his education at CSU, which is now Southern Utah University. He worked his way through college and received his bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Utah State University in 1968. Following his graduation, he and Linda moved to the Seattle, Washington, area, where Jon worked for Boeing on the design of the 747 Jumbo Jet. While living there, they were blessed with two children, Jodi and Brad. In 1971, Jon and his family moved to Satna Fe, New Mexico, where he worked for the New Mexico State Highway Department designing bridges. In 1973 they moved to Idaho Falls, where he has since lived and called home. Their family was blessed and completed with the birth of Jon Ryan in 1976. Upon moving to Idaho Falls, Jon began working at Monroc Concrete. He later founded and was a partner in Intermountain Construction in 1977. In 1988 Jon went onto found Commercial General Construction (CGC) with his business partner and best friend, Ron Keller. He was a licensed contractor in most of the western United States. Jon’s company, CGC, built many familiar sites around Southeast Idaho, including Hillcrest High School, Shoshone-Bannock Jr.-Sr. High School, and Madison Junior High School. He was pleased to have completed several projects for the LDS Church, including the Spencer W. Kimball Building on the BYU-Idaho campus. Jon’s company also worked on the renovation of the Idaho Falls LDS Temple, and did several remodeling jobs for LDS churches. Jon’s company also completed several projects around the Salt Lake area, including the Utah Boys and Girls Ranch, now known as the Westridge Academy, and many remodels for Valley Mental Health. Most recently, he helped found Teton Prestress Concrete in 2000, and completed concrete work for the gardens at BYU-Idaho and the concrete work for the addition to Madison Memorial Hospital. He loved his work, and often said: “I have never been to work a day in my life, it was all fun.” Jon was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and thoroughly enjoyed all of his callings and served in them to his fullest capacity. He served diligently as a home teacher, Scout Master, and Gospel Doctrine teacher, and through the years held many other callings. His love for the scriptures was well known, as he made living them as essential part of who he was. Jon enjoyed jogging around the Snake River with his dogs, wearing his white tube sock mittens. He also enjoyed both downhill and cross-country skiing, golfing, building and flying R/C planes, riding his Harley Davidson, and cheering on his Fantasy Football team, the “Mud Lake Rabbits.” He especially loved spending time with his friends, family, and most of all, his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Linda Perkins, daughter, Jodi (Joe) Hyde, and sons, Brad (Onala) Perkins and Jon Ryan (Michelle) Perkins, all of Idaho Falls. Brothers, Don (Judy) Perkins, Robin (Penny) Perkins, and Kelly Perkins, all of Salt Lake City, Utah. In-laws . . . they were all brothers and sisters to Jon. He also leaves a host of nieces and nephews, whom he dearly loved. And his best friend, Ron Keller, 17 Grandchildren and 1 Great Grandchild. He was preceded in death by his brother, Jerry, his father, and, in May 2010, his revered mother. Funeral Services will be held at 12 Noon, Friday, July 30, 2010, at the Idaho Falls LDS Brentwood Ward, 2040 Brentwood Drive, with President Jake Jacobson of the Idaho Falls West Stake officiating.
