Burke Delbert Ellis

Burke Delbert Ellis, a cherished son, brother, father, and friend, passed away on August 30, 2024, at Portneuf Medical Center in Pocatello, Idaho, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on September 14, 1983, in Pullman, Washington, to Rex and Karen Ellis, Burke grew up in Chubbuck, Idaho. From an early age, he was known for his free-spirited and mischievous nature, keeping his parents always on their toes. There was never a dull moment with Burke around.

Burke’s intelligence and quick wit were evident from a young age. Graduating from Highland High School in 2002, he went on to pursue higher education at BYU-Idaho and Idaho State University. Though he worked as an electrician for a time and also thrived in his role on the railroad, his true passion lay in his contracting business, PropertyWorkz, which he founded in McCall, Idaho.

In 2007, Burke met his former wife, Rebeka Cain, and they were married on February 2, 2008. Together, they helped raise Rebeka’s son, Braxton Chavez, and welcomed their daughter, Journi Leighann Karen Ellis, on April 29, 2009. Burke was a father who cherished taking Braxton and Journi on adventures such as fishing, hiking, snowboarding, and camping. The outdoors was where Burke felt most at home, and these shared experiences with those he loved brought him immense joy.

Burke’s love for the outdoors, combined with his passion for making music and cooking, defined much of his vibrant personality. While he was not a trained musician, he loved to play the guitar and could turn any object into a musical instrument, enjoying those impromptu sessions with friends. Whether he was fishing, creating music with whatever was around, or simply spending time with friends, Burke’s sociable nature and zest for life were evident to all who knew him.

Burke faced health challenges with bravery and resilience, including a long battle with Type 1 Diabetes. In recent years, he returned to his hometown of Pocatello to be closer to family while managing additional health conditions.

Burke is survived by his beloved daughter, Journi Ellis of St. George, UT; his father, Rex (Renée) Ellis of Nampa, ID; his sister, Devri (Blaise) Larson of Twin Falls, ID; his brother, Riley (Tatum) Ellis of Nampa, ID; his niece, Saylor Larson; his nephews, McKoy Larson, Asher Larson, and Slade Ellis; his grandmother, Nellie Borden of Ammon, ID; his step-siblings, Nate VanRoosendaal of Boise, ID and Catie McHardy (Tobi) of Nampa, ID; as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins who will deeply miss him.

Burke was preceded in death by his mother, Karen Ellis; his grandparents, Clyde and Velma Burtenshaw; and his grandfather, Delbert Ellis.
