Bruno Heinz Jachmann, 82, of Idaho Falls, passed away March 7, 2023, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.

Bruno was born March 26, 1940, in Hamburg, Germany, to Bruno Jachmann and Lydia Johanna Jachmann. Bruno and his family immigrated from Germany to the United States of America in 1952. He grew up and attended school at South High School in Salt Lake City, Utah, and graduated from The University of Utah with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Chemistry and Old Dominion University in Virginia with a Master’s Degree in Education.

On December 30, 1970, he married Anke Maren Thea Wamser in the Salt Lake City Temple. Bruno was a Retired Colonel with the United States Army and served for almost 30 years. He was a Vietnam War Veteran, serving two tours in Vietnam. Bruno and Anke made homes in Columbus (Fort Benning), GA, Fort Leonard Wood, MO, Fayetteville (Fort Brag), N.C., Boblingen (Panzer Kaserne), Germany, Hampton (Fort Monroe), VA, and finally Idaho Falls, Idaho.

After his military retirement, Bruno worked as a math and science teacher at Spratley Middle School in Hampton, Virginia, Madison Middle School, and Madison Jr. High in Rexburg, Idaho.

Bruno truly loved the Lord and served in many callings, including Bishop of The Hampton Ward in Hampton, Virginia, temple worker in the Idaho Falls Temple, Teacher in the S.N.A.P. Program in Idaho Falls, Idaho, and as Ammon Foothills Stake Emergency Communications Specialist, Idaho.

Bruno was an avid astronomer and member of the Salt Lake City Astronomical Society. He loved teaching the public about the planets and stars. He was an active member of the Eagle Rock Amateur Radio Club.  He also enjoyed reading.

Bruno is survived by his loving daughter, Larisa Jachmann (Troy D. Swiger) of Hampton, VA; sister-in-law, Jeanne Wamser of Woodridge, IL; sister-in-law, Corina Jachmann of Salt Lake City, UT; nephew, David Jachmann (Alison Jachmann); nephew, Robert Bruno Jachmann (Susan Jachmann); niece, Rebecca Jachmann (Kevin Wrice); niece, Michelle Harvey (Craig Harvey).

He is preceded in death by his wife, Anke Maren Thea Jachmann; brother, Siegfried Jachmann; brother-in-law, Heinz Wamser; parents, Bruno and Lydia Jachmann, and parents-in-law, Willie and Karla Wamser.

Funeral services will be held at 12 Noon Friday, March 17, 2023, at the Solitude Ward, 7118 South Ledgerock Drive, with Bishop Brandon Miner officiating. The family will visit with friends Thursday from 6:30-8 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 S. Ammon Road, and Friday from 11-11:45 a.m. prior to services at the church. Burial will be in the Ammon Cemetery. Military Honors will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Memorial Team and Idaho Honor Guard. Services will be broadcast live here .
