Brent Earl Wadsworth, 72, passed away unexpectedly from heart failure on Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2013, at his home in Pullman, Wash.
Brent was born July 24, 1941, in Idaho Falls to Afton Earl and June Campbell Wadsworth. He competed in several science fairs during high school and competed twice in the National Science Fair, once with a seven-foot rocket and once with a robot he invented that moved with a photocell eye. He graduated from Idaho Falls High School in 1959. Brent attended Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho for one year before serving a two-year Church mission to the Western United States.
Following his mission, he completed his education at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. While there, he met Maeva Kunkel of Pullman, Wash., and they married Aug. 31, 1967. He earned his bachelor’s degree in chemistry in 1968.
They moved to Concord, Calif., where Brent found work designing instruments using chromatography, a new technology at the time. He proudly worked for the same company, Varian, Inc, his entire career.
Brent and Maeva kept busy with their family as well. Their two boys and two girls kept them active in Boy Scouts, swimming, music, soccer matches and coaching baseball. They also were active in the LDS Church.
Brent liked to “putter” and was always doing projects around the house. He was fascinated with computers and liked to build his own. He loved books, puns and lists. He retired five years ago and recently purchased a home in Pullman to be near some of the family.
He is survived by his wife, Maeva; four children, Laura (David) Brown of Airway Heights, Wash., Michael (Sheri) Wadsworth of Pullman, Kelly (J. Daniel) Brown of Edgewood, Wash., and Matthew (Natalie) Wadsworth of Kaysville, Utah; 14 grandchildren and one great-grandson. He also leaves behind his three sisters, Brenda Lovell of Riverton, Utah, Jackie Felt of Lehi, Utah, and Kristy Lewis of Idaho Falls; two brothers, Benjamin Wadsworth of Boise and Enoch Wadsworth of Spanish Fork, Utah; and his stepmother, Norma Hawkes of Provo, Utah.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1055 NE Orchard Drive in Pullman, Wash., with a viewing at 3 p.m. prior to services.
