Gerald Brent Staker, lovingly known as Brent, was born on March 28, 1940, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Gerald Woodrow and Letha Mary Pack Staker. He passed away on October 18, 2026, at Homestead Assisted Living in Rexburg, Idaho.
Brent was the second of four sons, with an older brother, Fredrick James, and two younger brothers, Everon Lee and Dorian Paul. He spent his childhood in Idaho Falls, Idaho; Tucson, Arizona; and Montpelier, Idaho, where he enjoyed a loving, fun, and adventurous upbringing. One of his favorite childhood memories was riding his beloved horse, Flicka, across the sand dunes in Idaho Falls–a memory that reflected his lifelong love of adventure and the outdoors.
As a young man, Brent faithfully served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Auckland, New Zealand. His love for the gospel remained a constant throughout his life, and he found great comfort in his faith and in the promise that families can be together forever.
On December 27, 1963, Brent was sealed to his sweetheart, Lorraine Kay Durtschi, in the Idaho Falls Temple. Together, they raised five children in the Idaho Falls/Ucon area, creating a home filled with love and lasting memories. The Staker family enjoyed many vacations and memorable nights playing cards with their beloved Dinner Club friends, forming lifelong friendships and treasured traditions along the way.
Brent spent his career working for Architectural Building Supply, where he manufactured metal doors and window frames. He was incredibly talented and enjoyed a variety of hobbies, including jewelry making, rock polishing, training and raising birds and horses, and woodworking. He took pride in his work and found joy in sharing his talents with others. Through his service and willingness to help, he blessed the lives of family members, neighbors, and friends.
Brent was kind and loving and cared deeply for the people in his life. He enjoyed the warmth of Arizona and the cool summers of Idaho Falls. He especially loved welcoming family and friends to visit him in Arizona, where they could enjoy the pool and escape the cold. He treasured the time he spent with those he loved.
After a lifetime of love together, there is comfort in knowing that Brent is reunited with his beloved Lorraine. Though he will be deeply missed by his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all who knew and loved him, it is a beautiful thought to imagine him back with his sweetheart once again.
Brent leaves behind a legacy of faith, kindness, creativity, and devotion to family. He will be remembered for his many talents, his adventurous spirit, his generous heart, and the love he freely shared with those around him. His influence will continue through the generations of family he leaves behind and the countless memories that will forever be treasured.
Brent is survived by his five children: Tawyna Kay Fosmore (Roger) of Beloit, WI; Nathan Brent Staker of Mesa, AZ; Gerald DeRoy Staker (Jan) of Kealia, HI; Terria Ann Beck (Allen) of Idaho Falls, ID; and Angela Letha Piquet (Shane) of Idaho Falls, ID. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lorraine; his parents, Gerald and Letha Staker; his brother, Paul; his grandson, Ryan; and his great-granddaughter, Brylee.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 24, 2026, at the Ucon Stake Center, 2967 East 105 North, with Bishop Russ Donahoo officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 a.m. before the service. Inurnment will follow at the Ucon Cemetery.
