Boyd Young

Boyd Curtis Young, 57, passed away unexpectedly at home in the early morning hours of March 25, 2023.  He was surrounded by his beloved dogs, Zoos, Bambino, and Veto.

Boyd was born December 8, 1965, to Phares and Barbara Young. He grew up in Idaho Falls, Idaho, where he graduated from Bonneville High School in 1984. After high school, he served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Lima, Peru.

He attended Utah State University for a short time. In 1986 he married his high school sweetheart Diane Longhurst with whom he had three sons. They later divorced but shared an enduring friendship.

After numerous years in other industries, Boyd found his career passion as an electrical lineman and, after a serious shoulder injury, as an electrical planner. Despite a stroke he experienced a few years ago, Boyd excelled in this work and enjoyed great success.

He enjoyed health occupations, music, and the creative arts. He was known for his tender heart, kindness, hard work, and beautiful singing voice. A gifted artist, Boyd enjoyed creating high-end custom interior wall treatments and exterior facades. He was also a great cook, especially the baking arts. Though a private person, he shared his soothing singing voice with others from time to time.

Boyd faced some excruciating challenges in his life. Given the severity of the physical and personal difficulties he faced, his endurance is commendable. Despite his own suffering, Boyd always helped others when he could. This is exemplified by a recent award Boyd received for saving a man’s life by pulling him out of a burning vehicle. Admirably, his caring heart and compassion for his fellow man was not extinguished by the weight of his own burdens.

The adventures in his personal and professional life took him to several states. He spent the last 15 years living in near Palm Beach, CA. Though shy by nature, Boyd, also known as “Bodie” or “Justin”, made friends easily. He enjoyed some significant relationships and found camaraderie with his co-workers.

Over the years Boyd found profound companionship and solace with his purebred dogs Veto, Bambino, Agnana, Donatella, Assisi, Mario, Zelda and Zoos.

At the time of his death, Boyd was preparing to retire and move home to Idaho to be close to family. His sons, grandchildren, and extended family were looking forward to this with great anticipation. Though his family grieves the loss of the future we hoped to have with Boyd, we find peace in the knowledge that he left this life with hope in his heart and a bright future in view.

He will be dearly missed by his sons, Kenton (Brittany) Young of Kaysville, UT, Brendon (Megan) Young of Woods Cross, UT, and Trevan (Melissa) Young of Bountiful, UT; brothers, Kevin (Sandra) Young, of Baldwin City, KS, Greg (Karen) Young of Rigby, ID, Steve (Jan) Young of Katy, TX; sister, Debbie DeFilippis of Idaho Falls, ID; and seven grandchildren. He was loved by many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Phares “Swede” Young, Jr.; mother, Barbara Ann Jensen Stewart; brother, Jeffrey Todd Young; and sister-in-law Ronda Harris Young.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a..m. Saturday, April 8, 2023, at Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge. The family will visit with family and friends Saturday from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to services. Burial will be in the Grant-Central Cemetery after the service.
