BOYD R. WECKER
IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Boyd Raymond Wecker, age 70, long
time resident of Idaho Falls, and former manager of Farr's Jewelry, passed
away on Wednesday, January 19, 2005, in Bountiful, Utah. Boyd was born
April 19, 1934, in Ogden, Utah. He was the son of Earl Francis Wecker
and Eunice Shurtliff Wecker. Boyd was always industrious. As a young man
he often held two or three jobs at once. These included working at an
Ogden movie theater and in the family shoe store.
Boyd graduated from Ogden High School and then went Utah
State University, where he majored in business. While at USU he was a
member of the Phi Kappa Alpha fraternity. His fraternity brothers were
instrumental in bringing Boyd into activity in The Church of Jesus Christ
of Latter-day Saints. Because of their influence, he decided to serve
a mission. He was called to the Samoan and Fijian Islands, where he served
a teaching mission. Boyd loved music, and his favorite assignment while
on his mission was organizing the band at the island school where he taught.
After his mission, Boyd returned to USU to finish his
degree. At this time he met Dianna Lewis. They were married in the Salt
Lake Temple on August 18, 1960. The newlyweds made their first home in
Idaho Falls, where Boyd had recently opened a new business, Farr's Jewelry.
Boyd was talented businessman. Through the years, he built Farr's into
a very successful business. The annual Christmas Santa Gram contest was
his creation, and he really enjoyed putting it together each year. Boyd
retired from Farr's in 1992.
After his retirement, Boyd served a mission at the LDS
Church Cannery. He also enjoyed spending time at his cabin, woodworking,
going out to lunch with friends, and visiting with his grandchildren.
Boyd is survived by his three daughters, Julianna (Howard)
Argyle of Pleasant Grove, Utah, Michelle (Corey) Miles of Star Valley,
Wyoming, and Tricia (Kevin) Snyder of Syracuse, Utah, and his 14 grandchildren.
He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Kay Wecker of Roy, Utah. He
was preceded in death by his wife, Dianna Lewis Wecker, his parents, his
sister, Patsy Ruth Wecker Hansen, and his brother, Francis Earl Wecker.
Boyd loved cheese, red suckers, Island Park, barbershop
quartets, motorcycles, nice cars, snow machines, sunning himself at the
beach or by the pool, and a good mystery book. He also loved giving great
gifts, helping people, his many friends and neighbors, and his family.
We are all lucky we have so many great things to remember him by.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday,
January 22, 2005, at Wood Funeral Home, 273 North Ridge Avenue, Idaho
