Bonnie Gail Johnson

Born, Bonnie Gail Hancock, Bonnie Johnson of Garden City, Idaho, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 28, 2024, at 5:50 p.m., at the age of 86, surrounded by loved ones.

Bonnie was born in Idaho Falls, Idaho, December 11, 1937, to Wallace and Violet Mae Hancock. She graduated from Salmon High School in 1956. Bonnie married Bruce Payette of Salmon. Later, after that marriage ended, Bonnie met and married Richard (Dick) Johnson. Bonnie and Dick lived in Ririe, Idaho, where they farmed potatoes and raced horses. Their daughter Lisa was born in 1963 while they were living in Ririe. Later, they lived in St. Anthony.

After divorcing, Bonnie moved to Idaho Falls and raised her daughter there and in the Boise area. She has lived in Boise and the surrounding area ever since. Over the years, Bonnie worked at Westinghouse, the Bonneville County Health Department, St. Luke's hospital and other companies as a secretary and then at Hewlett-Packard as a Manufacturing Supervisor until her retirement in 1995. She didn't like retirement, so she worked in an Assisted Living facility and as a school bus driver. Amid it all, Bonnie and her daughter owned and ran a cinnamon roll shop, for a time.

In 1983, Bonnie's only grandson, Daniel Patrick, was born, and he was, in no uncertain terms, the delight of her life. Bonnie helped raise Daniel into the wonderful man he is.

Bonnie was a strong Christian woman, who believed in Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. She looked forward to the day when she would be united with her Lord and again see that family she missed.

Bonnie is survived by Lisa and Daniel, of Garden City and Boise, Idaho, respectively; her sister, Julie Irving Fontes with husband Don, of Ammon Idaho and Tavares, Florida; her nephew, Steven Swanson with wife Jacque; her nephew Jason Andrews; her niece, Rebecca Swanson; her great niece, Naomi Swanson; and her great nephews, Steven Paul Swanson, Dante Dedic, Christian Andrews, Matthew Irigoyen with wife Jill, Jon Irigoyen and James Irigoyen, all of Idaho Falls. James is currently serving in the military.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Violet May (Pat) Stricklan; and her brothers, Ronald Hancock, Wallace Hancock, and Steven Paul Zimmerman.

A special thank you to First Choice Hospice of Boise, Idaho, particularly Amy, Shiloe and Torri. Your time, love, and commitment to caring for our mother and grandmother is so greatly appreciated.
