Bona Mason

Bona R. Mason - 05/29/2002 Bona R. Mason - 05/29/2002 BONA R. MASON IDAHO FALLS, ID -- We honor the life of Bona Roe Mason, who has spent her life in service, not only of we, her family, but in the gentle caring of many patients throughout her nursing career. She served her country working in the defense plants of World War II. She has never taken the privilege of voting casually. A staunch and active Democrat all of her life, she campaigned vigorously for both Senator Frank Church and Governor Cecil Andrus while living here in Idaho. In retirement she was a political advocate for the rights and needs of seniors and widows. She has left a legacy of love for her own family, teaching us as children, of her Pioneer parents and her brothers and sisters. She has fostered the desire in us for close families because of the love and concern she has felt for each of her grandchildren. She has nourished our need for the learning of our ancestors through stories and written histories, many she has written herself. Born November 24, 1902, in Escalante, Utah, to Charles John Roe and Eliza Ann Hall Roe. She died May 28, 2002, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, of causes incident to age. She married Aaron B. Mason, deceased, on October 25, 1924. They had two children, Shirley [Leo] Higham of Idaho Falls, and Joan [Dick] Say of Orem, Utah. She has 13 grandchildren, Nancy [Mel] Olsen of Lyndon, Utah; Linda [Mel] Wilhelmsen of Nampa, Idaho; Richard [Joyce] Higham of Boise, Idaho; Janet [Travis] Bowen of Fruit Heights, Utah; Terrie [Greg] Campbell of Idaho Falls, David [Jacque] Higham of Idaho Falls, Gary [Bonnie] Higham of Idaho Falls, Paul [Shelley] Higham of Chehalis, Washington; James [Nancy] Howes of Salem, Utah; Steven [Lorri] Howes of Thornton, Colorado; Bruce Say of Ft. Bragg, California; Rick Say of Tehachapi, California, Mary [Ed] Nelson of San Jose, California, 62 great grandchildren, and 49 great great grandchildren, all surviving. Her services will be held Thursday, May 30, 2002, at 11 a.m. at the Wood Chapel of the Pines, 273 North Ridge, with viewing starting at 10 a.m. Burial will be in the Grant-Central Cemetery under the direction of Wood Funeral Home.
