Bobby Ray "Bob" McKinney

Bobby Ray McKinney, 85, of Shelley, passed away August 27, 2026, at his home. He was under the care of Aspen Home Health & Hospice, and surrounded by his loved ones.

Bob was born November 13, 1940, in Spruce Pine, North Carolina, to Samuel Wade McKinney and Mattie Carpenter McKinney. He grew up and attended schools in Spruce Pine until he was 13 years old, when he hitch-hiked to Idaho by himself.

In 1973, he married Vickie Ann Wheeler in Reno, Nevada. Bob and Vickie made their home in Shelley, Idaho, where Bob worked for Burgraf Construction.

He was a believer in the Baptist faith. He loved the great outdoors, hunting, fishing, camping, taxidermy, building things, and spending time with his family. He enjoyed gardening and really loved his flowers. He was quite the jokester, always coming up with something to make you laugh with his North Carolina accent.

Bob is survived by his daughter, Malina McKinney of Shelley, ID; step-daughter, Lacie McKinney of Idaho Falls, ID; 13 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wade and Mattie McKinney; wife, Vickie McKinney; grandparents; sons, Brian McKinney and Robert McKinney; sister, Ivalee Pratt; and cousin, Raymond McKinney.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 12, 2026, at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 S. Ammon Road. The family will visit with friends from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to services.
