Robert Strand Peterson, 88, of Idaho Falls, passed away April 20, 2016, at Madison Memorial Hospital in Rexburg.

Bob was born May 15, 1927, in Chinook, Montana, to Wallace Benjamin Peterson and Helen Mabel Strand Peterson. He grew up and attended schools in Lincoln and graduated from Idaho Falls High School. He also attended Ricks College. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Idaho State University. Bob served in the United States Navy during World War II.

On February 18, 1949, he married Donna Rae Boehlke. To this union were born four children, Dana, Bob, Page, and Bill. They were later divorced. Bob worked as a nuclear physicist at the Idaho National Laboratory and also had a carpet business, a car dealership in Bozeman, Montana, a motel in Sun Valley, Idaho, and he farmed in Teton Valley.

He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He enjoyed collecting classic cars, snow-machining, snow and water-skiing, and he built his own cabin by the Palisades Reservoir.

Bob is survived by his daughter, Dana (Roger) Hoopes of Rexburg, ID; son, Bob Peterson of Kalispell, MT; daughter, Page (John) Umek of Hagerman, ID; son, Bill (Charmaine) Peterson of Hayden, ID; sister, Waleen Simon of Phoenix, AZ; 11 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Winn Peterson; sister, Helen Marie Peterson; and brother, Cecil Peterson.

Graveside services will be held at 12 Noon Saturday, April 23, 2016, at Lehi City Cemetery, 1100 North 400 East, in Lehi, Utah. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
