Bob E. Jones

Robert Elton "Bob" Jones Jr., 90, of Idaho Falls, passed away July 8, 2025, at his home. Bob was a resident of Lincoln Court Senior Living and was under the care of Symbii Home Health and Hospice. The family is greatly thankful for the compassionate care their employees gave to Bob.

Bob was born March 13, 1935, in Lubbock, Texas, to Robert Elton "Casey" Jones Sr. and Maud Irene McGowan. After his mother died in 1937, Bob was raised to adulthood by his maternal aunt and uncle, Albin Buford White Sr. and Fannie Claudie McGowan. Bob attended schools in Lubbock and San Angelo, Texas, graduating from Lubbock High School in 1953. After graduation, he joined the New Mexico National Guard and then the U.S. Navy where he served on nuclear submarines.

In the late 1950's, Bob came to the Idaho Falls area to go through nuclear training at the Westinghouse Site. In September 1959, he met his future wife, Louise Darling. They were married on April 8, 1960, at her parent's house on Orlin Drive in Idaho Falls. In 1967, Bob converted to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and he and Louise were later sealed in the Laie Hawaii Temple on January 26, 1968.

After retiring from the Navy in 1974 at the rank of E-8, Bob worked for Stone & Webster in New York City before the family moved to San Antonio, Texas. After receiving a B.S. from the University of Texas at San Antonio, he worked for the City of San Antonio and then taught computer science classes for the Alamo Community College District.

Besides his family, the two things Bob loved most were attending the temple and traveling. During their almost 60 years of marriage, Bob and Louise were able to see the United States, Great Britain, and many parts of Europe. For 18 of those years, they lived full-time in an RV and traveled the United States and Canada where they were able to visit several LDS temples. They completed a one-year stake mission at the Dallas Texas Temple and then served as veil workers in the Washington D.C., San Antonio Texas, and Orlando Florida Temples. As a convert to the LDS Church, Bob developed a love for family history and completed temple work for hundreds of deceased family members.

Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Louise; his son, Robert Cary Jones; his parents; his younger brother, Billy Jones; and his aunt and uncle.

He is survived by his son, Gary Alan (Charlene) Jones and daughter, Terry Louise Jones, both of South Riding, VA; daughter-in-law, Marguerite Jones of Las Vegas, NV; 7 grandchildren: William, Julianna (Rome), Marlee, Lauren, Kara (Wes), Darcie, and Arik; 4 great-grandchildren: Analeigh, Ailani, Jairome, and Pablo; sister-in law, Nyda Ovard of Idaho Falls; and brother-in-law, David Ovard of Teton, ID.
