Blake Thomas Burt

Blake Thomas Burt, 65, of Idaho Falls, passed away February 11, 2023, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.

Blake was born March 29, 1957, in Brigham City, Utah, to Dale H. Burt and Frances Pearl Rhees Burt. He was the last of five children, Junior, Marilyn, Rhees, and Michelle. Blake graduated from Box Elder High School where he was an All American in football and All State in wrestling. He later signed a letter to play football at BYU and received offers from University of Utah and Snow College. Unfortunately, the spring before his freshman year at BYU, he blew out his knee. Despite his injury, he went on to play for two years at Snow College. After college, he decided to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was called to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Blake married Ann Smith and they were blessed with four children, Tessa, Preston, Reed, and Jed. Blake and Ann were later divorced. Blake worked as an Engineer his whole life, ranging from jobs in the space program to nuclear clean up. He was very passionate about his career and was well loved by his co-workers.

He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Blake loved anything golf related, whether it was teeing off on an early Friday morning, going to the Masters several times, or watching a weekend tournament on TV. He even had a hole-in-one at Pinecrest Golf Course in Idaho Falls. Blake loved attending activities for his children and grandchildren. He was the best dad and grandpa, and rarely missed a football game or dance recital.

Blake was lost far too early. He will be greatly missed by his children, grandchildren, siblings, and friends, who will carry on the legacy of his hard work, kindness, strength, devotion, generosity, love for his Savior, and great sense of humor. We love you, Dad.

Blake is survived by his daughter, Tessa (Landon) Taylor of Ammon, ID; son, Preston Blake Burt of Idaho Falls, ID; son, Harrison Reed (Aubrey) Burt of Buckeye, AZ; son, Jedadiah Smith (Emily) Burt of Meridian, ID; sister, Marilyn (Craig) Smith of Brigham City, UT; brother, Rhees (Glenna) Burt of Bear River, UT; sister, Michelle (Rod) Mund of Willard, UT; and 10 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dale and Frances Burt; and brother, Carlos Junior Burt.
