Blaine Ellis Ashment, 79, of Idaho Falls, passed away May 7, 2011 at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. Blaine was born February 9, 1932 to Arlyn Ashment and Vella Porter Ashment in a two room log cabin in Star Valley, Wyoming, but on the Idaho Side of border line. He was raised in a two room log cabin about three miles north of the border line, on the banks of King Creek on a large hilly ranch, a very pretty place. He had one older brother and three sisters and three younger brothers. He married Mary Irene Sexton on February 24, 1951 in Florence, Arizona. To this union was born three daughters, Terry, Karen and Penny. Mary preceded him in death January 10, 1990. Blaine worked with big cotton picking farming equipment and he picked some cotton by hand. The hot summer weather in Arizona drove him back to Idaho on August 18, 1953. He worked for the State of Idaho Department of Highways in Swan Valley. He did highway maintenance for 17 years. He then moved to Rigby where he worked for the bridge and building crew. He retired August 18, 1987. On September 8, 1992, he married Bonnie Jean Hammer Clay and gained eight stepchildren. Survivors include: Wife: Bonnie Ashment, Rigby, Idaho Daughter: Karen Buchanan Daughter: Penny (Don) Drews Step-daughter: Lolita (Bob) Jones Step-daughter: Sandra (Floyd) Board Step-son: Brad (Debbie) Clay Step-son: Gary Clay Step-daughter: Sherri (Paul) Long Step-daughter: Janet (Jeff) Farnes Six grandchildren and many step grandchildren He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Mary; brothers, Kieth, Theo and Norris; sister, Katherine, daughter, Terry Evans; stepsons, Bruce Clay, Rod Clay; and a step-grandson, Jon Clay. Graveside services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, May 12, 2011 at Fielding Memorial Park. The family will visit with friends on Thursday from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge Ave. prior to proceeding to the cemetery.
